Chapter 3: Bogies
- ICF/RCF all-coil bogies are used in mainline BG coaches. Key design details are briefly described.
- Leading parameters for an ICF bogie are listed in Table 3.1.
- Maximum axle load bearing is 16.25 tonnes or 13 tonnes.
- Wheel base is 2896mm.
- Wheel diameter is 915mm.
- Axles use telescopic axle guides with oil damping.
- Primary suspension uses coil springs.
- Secondary suspension also uses coil springs, with hydraulic shock absorbers.
- Coach body weight is transferred to the bogie frame via side bearers, spaced 1600mm apart.
- Side bearers have lubricated metal slides in oil baths.
- Bogie pivots are only for rotational transmission of tractive/braking forces.
- Bogie frame construction is all-welded, light construction, with a 2.896-meter wheelbase.
- Wheel sets have self-aligning spherical roller bearings in cast steel axle box housings.
- Helical coil springs are used for both primary and secondary suspensions.
- Bogie bolster helical springs are situated on the lower spring beam.
- Hydraulic shock absorbers and dashpots are used in the primary and secondary suspensions to damp vertical oscillations.
