Importance of Confidentiality

  • Confidentiality is the foundation of case management and must protect the dignity of the Jamati Member (JM) at all costs.
  • Confidentiality is a right of the individual and helps avoid stigma and maintain institutional credibility.
  • Trust is essential, and JMs must feel secure sharing personal information.

Key Rules of Confidentiality

  • Share information only with your Case Lead.
  • Protect JM information shared in trust, and destroy personal notes after updating them in the system.
  • Confidentiality applies to everyone, including volunteers, teachers, staff members, and leadership.
  • Confidentiality is timeless and does not end when a task or role with a case is completed.
  • Ensure transparent and consensual sharing of information, specifying what, when, how, and with whom information will be shared.

Breaking Confidentiality

  • Informed consent from the JM allows breaking confidentiality.
  • Break confidentiality if a JM indicates thoughts or intents of self-harm or harming others.
  • Break confidentiality if a child, elderly person, or vulnerable person is being abused, neglected, or in danger.
  • When breaking confidentiality, follow escalation strategies, keeping sensitive information within the chain of escalation.

Escalation Strategy

  • Escalate to your Case Lead.
  • If the lead is unavailable, escalate to their lead and/or the On-Call Case Manager.
