    • Standard category aircraft is operated under a Standard Certificate of Airworthiness (CofA).
    • CofAs are issued for various aircraft types: transport, normal, utility, aerobatic, commuter, manned free balloons, and special classes.

    CASR Part 66

    • CASR 1998 regulates aircraft engineer licences and ratings, certificates of release to service, and administration of the Part 66 MOS.
    • The MOS defines requirements for aircraft engineer licenses, associated privileges, and more.

Part 66 Manual of Standards (MOS)

    • A MOS is a legal instrument that must be registered and publicly available.
    • It supports CASR Part 66, providing technical specifications and standards for aircraft engineer licenses.
    • Includes the requirements for the issuance of aircraft engineer licenses.

    Aircraft Engineer Licence

    • Part 66 MOS specifies license requirements in different categories (A, B1, B2, C).
    • Categories A and B1 may be endorsed with subcategories for maintenance on specific combinations of aircraft, turbine, and piston engines.

    Type Ratings and Eligibility

    • Eligibility for B1, B2, or C licence ratings is gained by completing theoretical and practical aircraft type training (and assessment).
    • Some ratings may be earned based on foreign certifications, or if certain aircraft are specifically designated as requiring type ratings by CASA (large aircraft, or specific engine types) .

    Non-Type-Rated Aircraft

    • Aircraft that don't require a type rating for maintenance certification.

    Aircraft Systems, Designations, and Conditions

    • Table 1 in MOS 66.A.20 clearly differentiates between aircraft systems (mechanical, powerplant, structural, electrical, avionic).
    • Intersections between system types may occur, and licensures for involved system maintenance may vary accordingly.

    Licence Privileges (Category A)

    • A person with a Category A license can carry out maintenance certification for their subcategory if they performed that maintenance and it is line maintenance as specified in Appendix II of the Part 145 MOS.
    • Issue a CRS for their subcategory if the maintenance and certification are performed by another licensed Category A holder, if it is line maintenance specified in Appendix II of the Part 145 MOS, and the aircraft is covered by the subcategory.
