MECH 200 Introduction to Engg Drawing & Workshop Working & Assembly Drawing Fall Semester, 2024/2025. Engr. Hayder Ali [email protected] Department of Mechanical Engineering United Arab Emirates University WOEKING DRAWING PACKAGE Working Drawing Package: A packet of drawings that gives the specifications necessary to manufacture a design. Working drawing Detail Assembly drawing drawing Standard Parts List DEFINITION Detail drawing is a multiview representation of a single part with dimensions and notes. Each individual part is drawn on a separate sheet. Assembly drawing is a drawing of various parts of a machine or structure assembled in their relative working positions. Standard Part Sheet contains information about purchased items. DRAWING ORDER Drawings included in a working drawing package should be presented in the following order. → Assembly drawing (first sheet) → Part Number 1 → Part Number 2 →.... → Standard parts sheet (last sheet) Assembly Drawing Assembly Drawing The purpose of an assembly drawing is to provide visual information about the way in which parts of a machine or structure fit together. If the design depicted is only part of the total assembly, it is referred to as subassembly. ASSEMBLY DRAWING An assembly drawing shows how each part of a design is put together (idea about the finished product). It is called a working drawing that tells what is made, what material to use, which tolerance to be specified & other critical information. The assembly drawing can have as many views as needed to show all the parts. A sectional view is often included to show the material used for one/more parts. If any of the parts have an inclined plane, an auxiliary drawing is included somewhere in the plans. GENERAL PRACTICE The number of views can be one, two, three or more as needed, but it should be minimum. A good viewing direction is that represents all (or most) of the parts assembled in their working position. Needed only 1 view to locate all of the parts. TYPES OF ASSEMBLY DRAWING 1. Exploded assembly drawings The parts are separately display, but they are aligned according to their assembly positions and sequences. 2. General assembly drawings. All parts are drawn in their working position. 3. Detail assembly drawings All parts are drawn in their working position with a completed dimensions. 1. EXPLODED ASSEMBLY 2. GENERAL ASSEMBLY PIPE VICE ASSEMBLY Pictorial Orthographic 3. DETAILED ASSEMBLY (working-drawing assembly) REQUIRED INFORMATION IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY DRAWING 1. All parts, drawn in their operating position. 2. Part list (or bill of materials, BOM) 1. Item number 2. Descriptive name 3. Material, MATL. 4. Quantity required (per a unit of machine), QTY. 3. Leader lines with balloons around part numbers. 4. Machining and assembly operations and critical dimensions related to operation of the machine. PLACING AN INFORMATION - Assembled parts - Reference numbers Part list General notes Title block PART LIST (BoM) The parts list is an itemized list of the parts that make up the assembled machine. Leader lines point to the corresponding part. Balloons containing part numbers. Balloons are placed in orderly horizontal or vertical rows. The leader lines; - should not cross, - be as parallel as possible. The parts list may be placed in the lower right corner of the drawing. - Part# 1 is at the bottom. STANDARD PARTS Standard parts include any part that can be bought off the shelf. ❑ They do not need to be drawn. ❑ Purchasing information is given on the standard parts sheet attached to the back of the working drawing package. Standard Parts Sheet Example Part Name Part Number Information needed to purchase the item EXAMPLE : Selection of a necessary view Given Part A Part B Student A Student B Which is an appropriate view for assembly drawing ? GENERAL PRACTICE Hidden lines usually omit unless they are absolutely necessary to illustrate some important feature that the reader might otherwise miss. EXAMPLE : Hidden lines omit or not ? A Part A B Part B GENERAL PRACTICE Section technique is usually need to clarify mating of the parts. Use different section line styles for adjacent parts. Part A Correct Better Part B EXAMPLE 1 : Assembly steps 1 CLEVIS, Steel, 1 REQD. 2 ARM, Steel, 1 REQD. 3 PIN, Steel, 1 REQD.
