What is Internet? The word Internet comes from the term International Networking. Internetworking is a scheme for connecting two or more distinct computer networks together. Extra hardware systems are positioned between these networks in order to allow traffic to flow from one computer network to another. A collection of information stored in computers physically located throughout the world 1962 - J.C.R Licklider proposed the idea of a network of computers that could talk to one another 1969 - first ever message was sent from one computer to another 1971 - Ray Tomlinson developing the first system to send mail back and forth between the users of ARPANET the @ symbol was used to tell a persons name and the host name apart with all of the networks floating around there needed to be a way for all of the computers on them to communicate with other networks 1970\'s - Bob Khan and Vinton Cerf - design the internet - introduce computers across the globe to each other in a virtual space, this invention was called transmission control protocol or TCP which was followed by Internet Protocol or IP Advance Research Project Agency Network is was a result of another experiment called the ARPANET - which stood for advance Research Project Agency Network \- it was a defense department research project Paul Baran Computer Network Pioneer (Computer Network Pioneer) - trying to figure out how to build a communication system that might survive a nuclear attack. \*he had this idea of breaking messages up into blocks and sending them as fast, as possible in every possible direction through the mesh network. 1980-The Web was developed by Dr. Tim Berners-Lee who wrote a small computer program for his own personal use that allowed pages, within his computer, to be linked together using keywords. It soon became possible to link documents in different computers, as long as they are connected to the internet.
