# What is AIR? Air is the invisible gas surrounding the earth, made primarily from oxygen and nitrogen. - Air is all around the earth and its atmosphere. - Although air is invisible, it still has mass and takes up space. - Air is a combination of gases, water vapor, and substances. - We may take air for granted, but air is vital for the survival of life on Earth. Air is matter, which means that it is made of molecules and atoms. - It is invisible, however we can feel air in a cool breeze, when using a fan, and as we inhale and exhale. Air is also used for flight. - Some animals, like birds and bats, use the air for flight. - Humans use air for flight when using airplanes, helicopters, parasailing, parachuting, and when using drones. Air allows odour particles to fly, too. This allows our bodies to smell different things. - Odours are produced when things in the environment release particles that travel in the air. - Your nose has receptors that detect the odour molecules. **Matter is defined as something that has mass and takes up space. How do these attributes apply to air? Explain your thinking.**
