Types of computer storage Objectives WHAT IS COMPUTER TYPES OF STORAGE STORAGE SIZES STORAGE IN DIFFERENT DEVICES Introduction to Computer Storage Today, we’re going to learn about computer storage! Just like you keep your toys or books in a box or on a shelf, computers need places to store information, like pictures, games, and documents. Let’s explore the different types of storage! What is computer storage Any physical device that capable of storing information temporarily or permanently A storage device is any computing hardware that is use for storing, porting and extracting date files and objects Types of storage Permanen Temporary t Types of storage COMPACT DISC (CD) HARD DISK DRIVE FLASH DRIVE CLOUD STORAGE MEMORY CARDs Examples of Computer Storage 1. Hard Disk Drive (HDD) What It Is: A hard disk drive is a traditional storage device that uses spinning disks to read and write data. Where It’s Used: You’ll find HDDs in many computers and laptops. How It Works: It stores information magnetically on spinning disks, so it can access data quickly. 2. Solid State Drive (SSD) What It Is: An SSD is a newer type of storage that uses flash memory, which is faster than HDDs. Where It’s Used: Many new laptops and desktops use SSDs. How It Works: Since there are no moving parts, SSDs can access data almost instantly, making your computer start up faster. 3. USB Flash Drive What It Is: A small, portable device that you can plug into a computer to store files. Where It’s Used: Great for transferring files between computers or for backup. How It Works: It uses flash memory, which makes it easy to carry around! And how do we measure the memory? Challenge time! Search for how to find my computer's storage Share with us the memory size of your computer Activity : Can you provide information on the following types of computer storage: Memory Cards Cloud Storage Optical Discs? Specifically, what each one is, where it is commonly used, and how it works?
