Waves and their applications UNIT 1 – MODULE L LESSON 3 : LIGHT WAVE 1 Day 1 : Characteristics of EM wave Objectives: Identify speed of EM wave Explain the relationship between brightness and amplitude Compare the speed of light traveling in different materials 2 Starter: Question of the week: read page 45 and answer the question posted in google classroom. 3 Page 45 4 Speed of Light 5 Checking understanding: 300,000,000 m/s 3 x 108 m/s Write this in exponential form 6 Light travels more slowly in denser media. Compare the speed of light in the following materials and decide in which material light travel faster and which one slower. Answer: Speed of light is greater in vacuum than air, air than liquid, liquid than solid. Liqui Solid Air Vacuum d Light travels slower in denser/thicker 7 Checking understanding: page 58 8 9 Brightness and Amplitude The amplitude of a light wave corresponds to the brightness /intensity of the light. A brighter light carries more energy than a dimmer one. Brightness increases with the amplitude of the light wave. High amplitude = high energy = brighter light 10 Checking understanding: Page 58 11 EXIT TICKET: POP QUESTIONS ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM, ANSWER THE POP QUESTIONS AS EXIT TICKET FOR OUT LESSON. 12 Day 2 – MAP test 13 Day 3 – Lesson self-check Answer pages 38 – 39, 46 (Q. 7), 48 (Q.10, Q.11), 50 (Q.14), 52 (Q.1), 58-59. 14 Day 4 - Project Objectives: Identifying Waste Issues in the School Conduct a waste audit of the school environment 15
