Actively participates in the discussion and demonstrate knowledge on Treading water and endurance INTRODUCTION TREADING WATER & ENDURANCE The best skills to develop are the ones that will help you survive. Treading water is a skill that everyone should learn. This is something that is vital for lifeguards, soldiers, and anyone who is planning to spend time in the water. Treading water has been part of military training and survival skills throughout history. More recently, water sports and first aid courses have incorporated treading water. Treading water is the ability to keep one's head above water in an upright position by moving legs and arms. Treading water is a simple skill which you can learn with practice. There are many ways to tread water. Some of them are more effective than others, and some require different muscles to perform. This makes treading water an 1 excellent workout routine to do in an impact-free environment. Treading water is very important for swimmers, as it allows them to maintain their position in the water without sinking. TECHNIQUES IN TREADING WATER Treading water is one of the most basic swimming techniques. It’s really a simple technique that requires some getting used to. But once you learn it, the movement will become second nature. Basically, to tread water, all you have to do is remain upright and keep your head above water. Whatever leg and arm movements you choose to perform are fine, as long as your head doesn't sink. The trickiest part however is not getting tired. 1. Sculling Hand Movements: Move your hands in a back-and-forth motion or in small circular patterns to create lift and stability. Position: Keep your elbows slightly bent, with fingers spread wide for better water engagement. 2. Flutter Kick Leg Movement: Alternate your legs in a quick, gentle up-and-down motion. Feet Position: Keep your toes pointed and legs straight, but relaxed. 3. Eggbeater Kick Leg Technique: Move your legs in a circular, alternating motion, similar to an eggbeater. Efficiency: This kick provides stability and allows for hands-free movement, making it ideal for longer durations. 4. Vertical Position Body Alignment: Keep your body upright with your head above water. Core Engagement: Engage your core muscles to maintain balance and reduce fatigue. 5. Combination Techniques Use of Arms and Legs: Combine sculling with flutter or eggbeater kicks to maintain a stable position while allowing for rest. 2 Adjust as Needed: Switch techniques based on fatigue levels and water conditions. Tips for Effective Treading: Breathing: Maintain a steady breathing pattern to help with relaxation and endurance. Stay Relaxed: Tension can lead to faster fatigue, so focus on staying relaxed in the water. Supplementary Videos to Enhance Learning Treading Water and endurance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhJF8anl4q U Assessment Tasks Formative Assessment 1.3: At the end of the learning activities, the student should be able to answer the midterm quiz no. 1 about Treading Water and Endurance (Techniques for treading water, Building endurance with various drills, Combining learned skills for endurance), Preparing to swim by answering multiple choice questionnaires.
