Q&A. (200 to 300 words) What is Geography? What is Geography? (1) Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies spread across it. They also examine how human culture interacts with the natural environment and the way that locations and places can have an impact on people. Types of Geography (2) Physical Geography: The study of Earth’s seasons, climate, atmosphere, soil, streams, landforms, and oceans. Human Geography: The study of the distribution of networks of people and cultures on Earth’s Geography: What is it for? Absolute Location Absolute location describes the location of a place based on a fixed point on earth. Gulf of Oman The most common way is to identify the location using coordinates such as latitude and longitude. Oman Saudi Arabia Image source (2) Geographic Coordinates (3) The UAE is situated at Longitude: 51°35’ – 57°10’ Latitude: 22°35’ – 26°25’ c B. Relative Location The UAE is located in the Relative location refers to the Middle East region in the continent of Asia region, position of a place or entity southwest Asia and,in consisting of countries based on its location with respect least usually, partat of North to other locations. Specifically Africa, in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula. It is located in the east of the Arab world. Its borders are: from the north and north-western waters of the Gulf, west Saudi Arabia to the south by the Sultanate of Oman and Saudi Arabia also on the east of the Gulf of Oman and Oman. 2) Area (3) The area of the UAE including some islands in the Arabian Gulf is about 71,023.6 sq km, in addition to 27,624 sq km of territorial water. Abu Dhabi is the largest part which is equivalent to 84% of the total area of the state. The UAE 3rd largest country among the Gulf States. 3) Terrain UAE mostly of especially consists in the inner western deserts, region, and runs through several of those areas, oases Like Al-Ain and Liwa. Weather (4) Weather can be defined as the day-to-day temperature and the precipitation activity (over a short period of time). In general, climate is the state of the atmospheric condition of an area over long periods of time. Climate of the UAE The United Arab Emirates is famous for its extremely hot and humid summer seasons while the winter seasons are moderate and pleasant. On the coastal plains in the summer, the temperature highs between 38°.3 C and 45°C. Some internal parts saw temperatures reaching 47°C. Previously, in 2017, the highest maximum temperature reached 51.8 °C at Mezaira. (5) The winter, however, is very mild and cool as the temperature ranges between 18°C and 25°C and the humidity is extremely low. (6) In the mountains, because of the higher altitude, the temperatures are cooler. Rain (7) UAE suffers from a lack of rainfall. Winter typically brings very little or no rain, except for occasional showers and downpours that can cause flash floods. The average annual rainfall in the UAE is 140-200 millimeters, though this varies from year to year and between regions, as in the mountains area the average is 350 mm/year. In the broader region, the UAE is likely to get occasional powerful sand and dust storms. These are caused by strong northerly and north-westerly winds known as shamal (north wind). Shamals can be very hazardous and disruptive, as they are usually dusty and violent, affecting health and reducing visibility. The Advantages of the UAE Location What are the Advantages of the UAE Location? UAE society has stable and strong relationships with its neighbors. Gulf This relationship led to stability of and enhancement of the economy Oma n and prosperity of the society. Saudi Arabia Oman All issues and conflicts, if any, are treated co-operatively. It affects the energy of individuals while performing their work. What are the Advantages of the Coastal Plains? - It enables the country to establish many commercial ports which facilitate the process of imports and exports with most of the world Gulf of societies and that affect positively Oman the national economy. - The location enables the UAE to Saudi Arabia Oman expand its social and cultural communication with many countries. The Geological History of the UAE The Geological History of the UAE – 1 (8) - The UAE occupies a corner of the Arabian Platform, a body of continental rock that has remained relatively stable since the Cambrian Period more than 500 million years ago. - The UAE since the end of the Paleozoic, has remained in tropical or subtropical latitude. - The Precambrian history of the UAE is somewhat hypothetical. - Despite its travels, the UAE appears to have remained tectonic relatively stable. - The exception is the creation of the Hajar Mountains along its eastern The Geological History of the UAE – 2 (8) - The Arabian Platform encompasses not only present-day Arabia but also the shallow Arabian Gulf (which is not a true ocean basin) and the rocks of the Zagros Mountains of Iran. - In addition, for most of its history, the Arabian Platform has been part of the larger Afro-Arabian continent, and the two have behaved as a unit in response to plate tectonic movements. Only 25–30 million years ago, with the initial opening of the Red Sea, did Arabia begin to separate Mining in the UAE The territory of the UAE has gone through all the geological ages, which leads to underground wealth in the layers of sedimentary rocks and igneous rocks.
