**Week 12: Decolonization, Allyship & moving Forward in a Good Way** - Biskaabiiyang- a verb that means *"to look back"* - A form of decolonization- *\"a returning to ourselves\"* **Social Ecological Model -- Decolonizing Actions at Every Level** - Individual - Relationship - Community - Societal **Indigenization** - Indigenization recognizes the validity of Indigenous worldviews, knowledge and perspectives - Identifies opportunities for indigeneity to be expressed - Incorporates Indigenous ways of knowing and doing - Incorporates Indigenous ways of knowing and doing **Ally:** Being an ally is about disrupting oppressive spaces by educating others on the realities and histories of marginalized people. Means that YOU recognize the privilege that settler cultures have and take for granted. Means: - Acknowledging your feelings - Grounding yourself in your interest **Accomplice:** directly challenges institutionalized/systemic racism **Co-Resistor:** about standing together, as an ensemble, in resistance against oppressive forces **Calling In-** invitation to a one-on-one or small group conversation. Before calling in, consider: - Influence (relationship with the person) - Safety - Openness **Calling out-** bringing public attention to an individual, group or organizations harmful words or actions, before calling out, consider: - Urgency - Influence and safety - Openness **Considerations:** - **Patience** - **Self-care** - **Find allies** - **Safety** **Nurses Expectations** - [CNO Expectations: Code of Conduct] - The CNO upholds safe nursing care for the people of Ontario. - Explains the behaviour the public can expect of nurses when receiving health care. - All nurses are accountable to this Code. **6 Principles:** 1\. Nurses [respect the dignity] of patients and treat them as individuals 2\. Nurses work together to [promote patient well-being] 3\. Nurses maintain patients' [trust] by providing safe and competent care 4\. Nurses [work respectfully with colleagues] to best meet patients' needs 5\.
