## LESSON 6 - FAMILY RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CHANGE ### CLIMATE CHANGE - Large changes in the earth's weather patterns over long periods of time. - These changes have an effect on temperature, storms, rain, and also sea level. - Believed to have started during the industrial revolution. ### CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE 1. **Greenhouse Gases:** gases that make the world hot; produced by vehicles, factories, and burning of fuels. 2. **Deforestation:** Excessive cutting of trees 3. **Pollution:** Affects the quality of air, water, and land. 4. **Excessive Consumption of Energy** ### RIGHT WAYS OF RESPONDING TO CLIMATE CHANGE - **Conserve Energy** - **Lessen Plastic Use** - **Implement Waste Segregation and Recycle** - **Minimize Water Usage** - **Advocate for Local Products** - **Take Action to Plant Trees** - **Educate Others** - **Compassion** ### 1. CONSERVE ENERGY AS A FAMILY - Turn off the lights and appliances when not in use. - Practice using natural light to save energy. ### 2. LESSEN PLASTIC USE - Bring reusable bags and containers instead of using plastics. ### 3. IMPLEMENT WASTE SEGREGATION AND RECYCLE - Segregate household waste and recycle items that can be reused, such as plastic, paper, and bottles to reduce the amount of waste. ### 4. MINIMIZE WATER USAGE - Save water by using a bucket in the shower, reusing water for watering plants, and making sure there are no broken faucets in the house. ### 5. ADVOCATE FOR LOCAL PRODUCTS - Support local products every time you shop to reduce the family's carbon footprint. ### 6. TAKE ACTION TO PLANT TREES - Plan a family tree-planting activity for nature. ### 7.
