Where to find valid information Lecturer Annaleena Kolehmainen 2024 Why the source you use is important when we talk about legal issues? Validity of the source defines the validity of information When finding out the information about legal rules, the information has to be exact, correct and up-to-date Exact - too simple sources simplify information which then can be misunderstood Correct – a trustworthy source provides trustworthy information Up-to-date – laws change fast, and you have to follow them, not knowing about the change is not an excuse PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE VALIDITY OF YOUR SOURCES! 2. Where to find valid information?  www.finlex.fi : Finnish legislation (unofficial translations)  http://eur-lex.europa.eu/ : EU Law  www.prh.fi : companies and trademark  www.eduskunta.fi : Parliament's pages (constitutional issues)  www.om.fi : Ministry of Justice’s pages, different legal issues  www.oikeus.fi : judicial system  www.kuluttajariita.fi : consumer disputes board’s pages, consumer protection  www.vero.fi : tax issues  www.tyosuojelu.fi : labor and occupational safety legislation, work related issues  www.suomi.fi information about public services What about copying text or utilizing AI? In HAMK we use a plagiarism check tool Turnitin which shows if the text is copied or if it’s AI generated Copying in Legal course can be accepted, if It is absolutely necessary to copy a part of a law The text is quite brief (1-2 sentences) It’s based on law only (not on other valid sources) Quotations are used and the part has a correct in- text citation referring to a law In this course you could use AI, if you don’t understand something, but DO NOT trust on the info you receive from AI, always check the info from valid sources.
