TOWARDS AUTONOMY VISA TO THE USA -1- Searching for specific information about a topic related to the USA....... Oct. (writing, surfing,… and imagining a possible scenario*) -2- Reading, selecting, structuring the information.................................Dec-Jan. -3- Writing* a script/scenario and rehearsing* regularly.......................... Jan-Feb -4- Oral presentations............................................................ / (15’) Mar – May * Possible help from your teacher if you ask for it! INSTRUCTIONS / ADVICE 15 Minutes’ dialogue Oral presentation of your subject: You must/should.......... present orally in a 15 minutes’ dialogue the aspect of the USA you have chosen......................................... present orally in a 15 minutes’ dialogue the aspect of the USA that your partner has chosen............................................... mind the stress in your sentences; you are really acting the dialogue; so some words are more important than others key-words!............................................... mind the punctuation, the rhythm of your dialogue (this is no « school reading » or dictation!) On the contrary, this is not a race either: don’t speak too fast, your audience shouldn’t be a « victim » of your wish to reach the end of it................................................ speak loud enough so that everybody (not only your partner) can hear and understand you clearly................................................ prepare your dialogue orally, long before the D-day, with your partner, by regular repetitions (why not use a recorder?). So your script should be ready very early too!............................................... prepare all the accessories you need long before coming to class and try to be as practical as possible (posters, objects, boards, clothes,....). You cannot/shouldn’t.. have any texts or script with you during your dialogue; only your partner who can adapt to you + some photographs or maps,................................................... read your role but speak, talk to your partner and sometimes repeat some points or say them in other words to stress their importance................................................ tell a text you have learned by heart from a book or a brochure: it is generally in « written » style (long sentences, hard English!...) and it isn’t very natural in your speech. Keep this book or brochure as inspiration but use smaller sentences, more « spoken » language,... so that your dialogue sounds NATURAL!............................................... speak less than 10 minutes (minimum) and more than 15 minutes (maximum). Test this too when you are preparing with your partner. Date of YOUR presentations:........../............ 2019 (See list) GLfbvr © - 27-09-18 D:\PRO\English\VISAS\USA\Usadialogue.DOC -1- What about the marks? -Your marks will depend on three aspects: The contents of your speech Does it correspond to the topic that you had announced originally? Before Christmas Exams 3.End of January. So BE READY!!! Your ability to communicate in the leading role (as a leader) and in the supporting role (as a partner) THIS IS TEAM WORK! with a communicative behaviour (enthusiasm is a big part of it: what can I really do with the English I have learned?!) by insisting on communication rather than details, using repetitions, saying with other words, reacting to your partner’s speech efficiently even if the original script is a bit changed by using anecdotes, drawing the attention by respecting a normal speed in your speech by respecting your classmates' talk (when it is not your turn!) by reacting correctly to the possible questions of your classmates at the end of your talk The linguistic aspect pronunciation of common words. pronunciation of specific terms checked in the dictionary respecting basic principles of grammar: tenses (irregular verbs), structure of sentences (+/-/?), the right pronouns, place of adjectives (comparatives, superlatives), use of articles (a/the/-) ,.... NB: - These marks will be determined by the evolution of your oral expression between the 1st and the ! 2nd presentation - These marks will determine the content of your exam of June [Oral Expression] - If your results < 65%, you’ll have to take the complete oral exam in June > 75%, you will take only a part of the oral exam in June are between 65-75%, you will have the possibility to choose!!!
