Admit mistakes- quick to admit being wrong. THE DEMANDS OF SOCIETY FROM THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL 1. Primary demand of the society: TO TEACH WELL 2. According to Research: the single most important factor in the learner's learning 3. Effective teacher makes the good and the not so good learners learn 4. Ineffective teachers adversely affect the learning of both good and not-so-good students. 5. Teachers (school) are expected to work with and for communities 6. The teacher works with and for the state, the community, the teaching community, school officials, non-teaching personnel, and learners as groups of people. As cited in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers 7. Works with different groups and plays different roles: -As a tutor -As a nurse -Community leader - Resource Speaker -As a guidance counselor -Consultant TEACHING AS A VOCATION AND MISSION TEACHING AS VOCATION VOCATION comes from Latin word "vocare" which means to call. Vocation refers to a call to do something like to teach.... Whatever is our calling...The call is always to serve. IT IS A JOB THAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEREIN YOU ARE PAID FOR. THERE IS EQUIVALENT VALUE OF THE JOB YOU DID.IF YOU WORK BECAUSE YOU ARE REQUIRED FOR THE SERVICE THEN IT IS VOCATION. TEACHING VOCATION refers to the intrinsic calling and passion for teaching. Emphasizing the formation of authentic and committed individuals. TEACHING AS MISSION The word mission comes from the Latin word "misio" which means to send. (The Webster's Dictionary defines mission as " task assigned" you are sent to accomplish an assigned Task TEACHING MISSION involves fulfilling a sense of purpose and meaning in one's work, contributing to the Lives of others through teaching. MISSION is a service with passion and out of LOVE, there is no need for recognition, and even if there is Not enough pay. You are still enjoying your job. You are committed to it with all your heart, that is your Mission. EVERY TEACHER HAS A PURPOSE, OR OBJECTIVE, THAT THEY NEED TO ACCOMPLISH WE ARE EXPECTED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE BETTERMENT OF THIS WORLD. TEACHING AND A LIFE OF MEANING DR. JOSETTE T. BIYO, the first Asian teacher to win the Intel Excellence in Teaching Award in an International competition said in a speech delivered before a selected group Of teachers, superintendent, DepEd officials, and consultants, Teaching may not be a lucrative position. It CAN NOT GUARANTEE FINANCIAL SECURITY. It even means investing your time, energy, and resources. Sometimes it means disappointments, heartaches, and pains, BUT TOUCHING THE HEARTS OF PEOPLE AND OPENING THE MINDS OF CHILDREN CAN GIVE YOU JOY AND CONTENTMENT WHICH MONEY COULD NOT BUY These are the Moments I teach for. These are the moments I live for TEACHING: MISSION and/or Job? 1. if you are doing it only because you are paid for it, it's a 2. if you quit because your boss or colleague criticized you, it's a 3. if you are doing it not only for the pay but also for service, it's 4. if you keep on teaching out of love, it's a 5. if you teach it does not interfere with your other activities, it's a 6. if you quit because no one praises or thanks you for what you do, it's a 7. if you are committed to teaching even if it means letting go of other activities, it's a 8. if you remain teaching even though nobody recognizes your efforts, it's a 9. it's hard to get excited about teaching, it's a 10 if our concern in teaching is success plus faithfulness in our job, it's a The teaching profession is governed by the Code of Ethics for Professional teachers is one of the grounds for revocation of the professional teacher's Certificate of Registration and suspension from the practice of the teaching profession(Sec. 23, RA. 7836). The teachers have to prepare themselves to become the best and the brightest, the most caring, competent, and compassionate teachers. THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL 1. Have Preparations to earn a Teacher education degree recognized by the Commission On Higher Education. 2. Passed the LICENSURE EXAMINATION FOR TEACHERS(LET) administered by the Board for Professional Teachers with the Supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission(PRC) 3. Obtained a license renewable every three years provided that he/she can show proof of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) 4. Expected to abide by the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers. Violation can be a ground for the revocation of the license Ensures professional practice with technical ethical and moral competence EFINITION OF A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER BY THE CODE OF ETHICS OF ROFESSIONAL TEACHERS. we teacher is a licensed professional who possesses DIGNITY and REPUTATION with high moral values as ll as technical and professional competence, he/she adheres to observes and practices a set of ethical d moral principles, standards, and values. LE DEMANDS FROM THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL word "teacher" suggests that the main responsibility of the professional teacher is to TEACH. The Cher's primary customer is the LEARNER, so let us concentrate on effective teaching, the professional cher's primary responsibility. There are some models/frameworks for effective teaching. "Highly professional" "unprofessional... Acting that way means a code of ethics by which a professional person abides. In short, a professional conforms to the technical or ethical ETHICS. standards of a profession. So two elements of a profession are COMPETENCE AND A CODE OF 1. Initial Professional Education - Professionals generally begin their professional lives by completing a university program in their chosen fields-teacher education, engineering. nursing, and accountancy. This means long and arduous years of preparation. Take note this is initial, which means ONLY the beginning because a professional is expected to learn endlessly. 2. Accreditation - University programs are approved by a regulatory body like the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in the Philippines to ensure that graduates from these recognized programs start their professional lives with competence.. 3. Licensing Licensing is MANDATORY, not voluntary, and is administered by a government authority. In the Philippines, this government authority is the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). 4. Professional Development This is an ongoing professional education that maintains or improves professional knowledge and skills after they begin professional practice. In the Philippines, this is Continuing Professional Development mandated by R.A 10912, otherwise known as the CPD Act of 2016. 5. Professional Societies Professionals see themselves as part of a community of like-minded individuals who put their professional standards above their self-interest or their employers self-interest. These professional societies are dedicated to the public interest and commitment to moral and ethical values. Professional Societies define certification criteria, manage certification programs, establish accreditation standards, and define a code of ethics and disciplinary action for violations of that code. 6. Code of Ethics Each profession has a code of ethics to ensure that its practitioners behave responsibly. The code states what professionals should do. Professionals can be ejected from their professional societies or lose their licenses to practice for violating the code of ethics. CCSJDM OBJECTIVES 1. To implement programs that are relevant to community development, conscious of nature and environment, and respectful of cultural differences. 2. To attain quality instruction and a high level of teaching competency among the faculty members. 3. To strengthen linkages between the College and industry partners and professional organizations. 4. To determine the opportunities provided by the College to develop students' full potential skills and talents to make them competitive in the labor force. 5. To develop more immersion programs for students that will produce graduates with increased self-esteem, confidence, and resilience. 6. To intensify students' involvement in both academic and extracurricular leadership within the College and in the local and institutional spheres. 7. To embark on research undertaking that will address areas such as curricular enhancement, community development, environmental consciousness, industry sensitivity, and disaster significantly affect the academe. 8.
