MEDICAL SURGICAL: Sir Eye Postoperative Phase muffin | BSN 2A | CEBU NORMAL UNIVERSITY Postoperative Phase it begins with patient’s emergence from anesthesia and continues From the admission of the patient to the recovery room and ends through the time required for the acute effects of the anesthetic and with a follow-up evaluation in the clinical setting or at home surgical procedures to abate. 3 STAGES IN POSTOPERATIVE PHASE Cardiovascular assessment: 1. Immediate Post Op V/S a.) q 15mins x 4 immediate post anesthesia recovery b.) q 30mins x 2 1 to 4 hours of surgery c.) q 1 hour x 2 2. Intermediate Post Op d.) as needed Recovery room/PACU (post anesthesia care unit) Monitoring Turn, cough and deep breathe unless contraindicated (Brain, spinal 3. Extended Post Op or eye surgery) 2-3 days after splint wound during coughing Keep NPO until bowel sounds are present Check for passage of flatus and stool NURSING CARE AT RECOVERY ROOM Progress from clear liquids to full liquids - transferring from OR to RR After full liquids are tolerated increase to soft, then to regular diet - avoid exposure Administer pain meds as need , give prior to ambulation - avoid rough handling Abdominal binder may ordered to support incision - avoid hurried movement and rapid movement Pillow can be used to support incision - monitor VS and level of consciousness - examine operative sites and dressings - proper positioning, side rails, restraints Respiratory - ensure maintenance of patent airways and adequate respiratory Monitor VS function Monitor patency and adequate ventilation - suction secretions prn Remember that extubated clients who are lethargic may not be able - encourage deep breathing to maintain an airway - lateral positions with next extended Monitor for secretions and remove them through suctioning - humidified oxygen as ordered Observe for chest movement symmetry and the use of accessory - Assess status of circulatory system muscles - monitor VS and fluid status Monitor oxygen administration & pulse oximetry - observe for s/sx of shock and hemorrhage Encourage deep breathing and coughing exercises as soon as - promote comfort and safety possible Note the rate, depth, and quality of respirations (>10,
