BUTALI Faculty, Department of Physical Education COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES Department of Physical Education PHYSICAL EDUCATION According to Bucher and Wuest - an educational process that uses physical activity as means to help an individual optimize his/her health and wellness. COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES Department of Physical Education HEALTH, FITNESS AND WELLNESS State of complete physical, mental and social well-being (WHO, 1946); Resource for everyday life and not the objective of living. “The quality of being suitable to fulfill a particular role or task.” The act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better health outcomes (Pfizer, 2024). PHYSICAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Abstaining from harmful habits.  Having regular exercise.  Taking proper diet and nutrition.  Getting a regular medical check-up.  Protecting yourself from injuries. TIPS FOR OPTIMAL PHYSICAL WELLNESS  Exercise daily  Get adequate rest  Use seat belts, helmets and other protective equipment  Learn to recognize early signs of illness  Eat a variety of healthy foods TIPS FOR OPTIMAL PHYSICAL WELLNESS  Control your meal portions (breakfast, lunch and dinner)  Do not smoke or stop smoking and protect yourself against second-hand smoke  Do not drink or drink alcohol in moderation EMOTIONAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Possessing the ability to express human emotions (happiness, sadness, anger).  Ability to love and to be loved. EMOTIONAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Achieving a sense of fulfillment in life.  Ability to share feelings.  Encompasses optimism, self-esteem, self- acceptance. TIPS FOR OPTIMAL EMOTIONAL WELLNESS  Tune-in to your thoughts and feelings  Cultivate an optimistic attitude  Seek and provide support  Learn time management skills  Practice stress management techniques  Accept and forgive yourself INTELLECTUAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Encourages creative and stimulating mental activities.  Active mind and always willing to learn. INTELLECTUAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Uses resources to expand one’s knowledge and skills.  Always up-to-date on current events and activities. TIPS FOR OPTIMAL INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS  Establish a good study habit  Develop interest in reading  Learn to appreciate art  Seek out people who challenge you intellectually TIPS FOR OPTIMAL INTELLECTUAL WELLNESS  Watch documentaries and good movies  Attend trainings and workshops  Participate in competitions INTERPERSONAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Ability to interact successfully with the global community.  Live up to the expectations and demands of our personal roles. INTERPERSONAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Learning good communication skills.  Creating a support network with friends and family members. INTERPERSONAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Showing respect for others and yourself.  Create sense of belongingness. TIPS FOR OPTIMAL INTERPERSONAL WELLNESS  Cultivate healthy relationships  Get involved  Contribute to the community  Share your talents and skills  Communicate your thoughts, feelings and ideals SPIRITUAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Possess a set of guiding beliefs, principles and values that will help give direction to life.  Have high level of faith, hope and commitment to your SPIRITUAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Willing to seek meaning and purpose to human existence.  Appreciate the things which cannot be readily explained or understood. TIPS FOR OPTIMAL SPIRITUAL WELLNESS  Listen to your heart and live by your principles  Allow yourself and those around you the freedom to be who they are  See opportunities for growth in the challenges life brings you ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Awareness of the unstable state of the earth and the effects of your daily habits to the physical environment. ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Get involved in socially responsible activities to protect the environment. TIPS FOR OPTIMAL ENVIRONMENTAL WELLNESS  Clean the surroundings  Conserve water and other resources  Minimize chemical use  Reduce, Reuse and Recycle TIPS FOR OPTIMAL ENVIRONMENTAL WELLNESS  Plant trees  Stop burning leaves and waste materials (R.A. 9003)  Refrain from using plastic if possible OCCUPATIONAL DIMENSION Attributes:  Preparing and making use of gifts, talents and skills to gain purpose and enrichment in life.
