UNDERSTANDING THE SELF REVIEWER Block 5 LESSON 1: SELF ENVIRONMENTAL AND OTHER LIFE FACTORS SELF/IDENTITY- Composes both the I as an actor and the me as the object. NATURE- the genetics and all the factors that is inherited. Example: Cheska has a curly hair just like her mother. VS NURTURE- environment factors that influence behavior and development. Example: Raiza was born with no siblings and a peace environment that is why she is quiet and kind to others. IDENTITY- that makes a particular person or group different from others. Example: Marijo and Elvin identify themselves as the student of Regis Marie College. VS THE SELF- the person that someone normally or truly or his/her entire person as an individual. Example: Ida and Vanessa see themselves as an artistic person because they like arts and creativity. DIMENSIONAL OF THE SELF/IDENTITY - can be best depicted that would set the person apart from others. - to help someone recognized by other people or the surroundings. FACTORS OF SELF AND IDENTITY Social factor- the influence of significant people in one’s life Example: Family values, peer pressure, cultural expectations, and role models Environmental factor- physical and communal elements present in everyday surroundings. (Climate, pollution, natural disasters.) Example: Due to severe air pollution in Parañaque City. Aichan develops respiratory issues and struggles with asthma. The poor air quality affects his ability to go outside for long periods, limiting his daily activities and social life. As a result, Aichan and his family consider moving to a less polluted area to improve his health. Hereditary factor- certain traits and characteristics are passed from one generation to another. Example: Genetic Disorders, Physical Traits, Susceptibility to Diseases, Mental Health Conditions, Blood Type Person-volition factor- choices and decisions that influence behavior and life outcomes. Example: Monica decides to shift course because that’s not her prefer program. THE PHYSICAL SELF - shaped by physical and environmental factors - surrounded by issues associate with health, nutrition, standards, and hygiene. The biological blueprint- physical features, physical competencies, valuation of physical worth, and perception of beauty. TRAITS- specific information embedded within one’s gene the basic unit of heredity. GENOTYPE- specific information embedded within one’s gene - genetic constitution of an individual with respect to a specific trait or set of traits. Ex. Blood type, eye color, genetic disorder PHENOTYPE- physical expression of a particular trait -the phenotype includes characteristics such as appearance, behavior, and biochemical properties. Cell carries 23 pair of chromosomes- threadlike bodies in nucleus of the cell and the storage unit of genes. Sex chromosomes- the 23rd pair, determine the sex of an individual DNA( deoxyribonucleic acid)- genetic instruction specifying the biological development of every individual. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS- refer to the external factors and circumstances that influence an organism’s growth, development, and behavior. These conditions can be physical, biological, or chemical and often interact with genetic factors. Example: A child who spends a lot of time outdoors in the sun develops a tan, while a child who stays mostly indoors remains pale. The amount of sunlight exposure, an environmental condition, affects their skin color.
