Present Simple Tense When do we use the Present Simple? 1. For regular actions or habits: I go to school every day. She drinks coffee in the morning. 2. For facts and general truths: The Earth orbits the Sun. Water boils at 100°C. 3. For timetables and fixed schedules: The train leaves at 6 PM. The shop opens at 9 AM. How do we form the Present Simple? 1. Affirmative sentences: I/You/We/They + base verb (no changes). We play football on Sundays. He/She/It + base verb + -s/-es. She reads books every evening. 2. Negative sentences: I/You/We/They + do not (don’t) + base verb. I don’t like fish. He/She/It + does not (doesn’t) + base verb. He doesn’t watch TV. 3. Questions: Do + I/you/we/they + base verb? Do you play the guitar? Does + he/she/it + base verb? Does she go to work on Saturdays? Examples of time expressions used with Present Simple: Always, often, sometimes, usually, never.
