The language of anatomy practice A. Completion The abdominopelvic and thoracic cavities are subdivisions of the Ventral body cavity; the cranial and spinal cavities are parts of the dorsal body cavity. The cranial body cavity is totally surrounded by bone and provides very good protection to the structures it contains. B. Highlight the term that DOES NOT belong in the following groupings. 1. Transverse Distal Frontal Sagittal 2. Lumber Thoracic Antecubital abdominal scapular 3. Calf Brachial Femoral popliteal 4. Epigastric Hypogastric right iliac left upper quadrant C. Identify the cavities. 1. Cranial cavity 2. Dorsal cavity 3. Spinal cavity 4. Thoracic cavity 5. Diaphragm 6. Abdominal cavity 7. Pelvic cavity D. KEY CHOICES A. Abdominal E. Buccal I. Gluteal M. Popliteal B. Antecubital F. Calf J. Inguinal N. Pubic C. Axillary G. Cervical K. Lumber O. Umbilical D. Brachial H. Femoral L. Occipital P. Scapular __C__ 1. Armpit __D__ 7. From the KEY CHOICES, select the body cavities where the following surgical procedures would occur. A. Abdominal C. Dorsal E. Spinal G. Ventral B. Cranial D. Pelvic(used twice) F. Thoracic ___D____ 1. Removal of the uterus, or womb. ____D___ 2. Removal of a “hot” appendix. ____B___ 3. Removal of a serious brain tumor. ____A___4. A stomach ulcer operation. ____F___ 5. Coronary bypass surgery (heart surgery). F. Completion with key choices. (Terms can be used more than once) A. Anterior B. Distal C. Frontal D. Medial E. Sagittal F. Inferior G. Lateral H. Posterior I. Proximal J. Transverse K. Superior In the anatomical position, the face and the palms are Anterior body surface, the buttocks and shoulder blades are on the Posterior body surface, and the top of the head is the most superior part of the body. The ears are superior to the shoulders and medial to the nose. The heart is medial to the spine and medial to the lungs. The elbow is proximal to the fingers but distal to the shoulders. In humans, the dorsal surface can also be called posterior surface; however, in four legged animals, the dorsal surface is the superior surface. If an incision cuts the heart into right and left parts, the section is a sagittal section, but if the heart is cut so that anterior and posterior parts result, the section is a frontal section. You are told to cut an animal along two planes so that the paired kidneys are observable in both sections. The two sections that meet this requirement are the transverse and frontal sections. G. KEY CHOICES A. Abdominopelvic B. Cranial C. Spinal D. Thoracic __A___ 1. Stomach ___A__ 2. Small intestine ___A__ 3. Large intestine ___A__ 4. Spleen ____A_ 5. Liver ___C__ 6. Spinal cord ____A_ 7.
