Protects vital organs such as the brain, heart, lungs. Gives attachment to muscles to bones to provide movement. Acts as a factory for making red blood cells. Stores important minerals such as calcium. Your skeleton can be divided in two parts: the axial which is composed of: - the skull - vertebral column - sacrum and ribcage the appendicular which is composed of: - the shoulder girdle (clavicle and scapula), - upper limbs - pelvic girdle - lower limbs An adult’s skeleton has 206 bones.
