Objective By the end of this presentation, you will be familiar with GVV Case study Mary is a nurse working in a busy public hospital. She is caring for Mr Fletcher who is in the final stages of a painful terminal condition. Unfortunately, Mr Fletcher lost consciousness several weeks ago just after his admission to the ward. He is not expected to regain consciousness and his family sit with him 24 hours a day. Mr Fletcher can no longer verbalise his requirements. Dr Jones has come to see Mr Fletcher and charts some IV antibiotics for him. However, Mary knows that Mr Fletcher has made an official request to have all treatment except pain relief ceased should he ever lose consciousness. Mary is in awe of Dr Jones, whom she recognises from the TV show Kings Cross ER. She believes that Dr Jones is not acting according to Mr Fletcher’s wishes, but she cannot think of a way to approach such a famous person. Questions 1. Responses Purpose of GVV The GVV curriculum is a post ‘ethical decision-making’ curriculum that aims to assist practitioners to act in accordance with their values The ethical decision has been made before implementing the GVV Responses Worth of GVV The GVV curriculum is valuable because it assists in developing the competence and confidence of practitioners to act, to voice their values and therefore to be effective moral practitioners Responses Worth of GVV Acting on one’s values makes it more likely that one will also act upon one’s values when values conflicts arise in the future Responses GVV 1.
