A SWOT analysis is one tool that is used to form plans for future developments. Strengths and weaknesses are usually considered internal factors. For example: Having a well motivated workforce who are used to and welcome change. Being open to leading-edge production technologies. Having new products that are demanded by stakeholders. For example: Staff who are resistant to change. Outdated technologies that are expensive to replace. A weak infrastructure that is unable to support change. For example: Opening of new markets. New cutting-edge products. Innovation in business processes. New media and social marketing platforms. For example: Innovative breakthroughs held by competitors. Competitors: with change management processes. Change in technology outdating what the organisation is currently using. Threats are potentially out of the control of management, who can either be proactive and plan for change, or wait and react to what happens next. © 2022 City and Guilds of London Institute. For example: Lack of management control. Resistance to change from staff. Passive management avoiding change. The business will need to consider these external impacts when planning a change management process. There are six external factors to be considered. PESTLE analysis in change management Review current situation and strategies. Identify solutions to need for change. Plan new direction/products/systems. Consider long-term effects of change. Plan performance and change actions. Strategic advantage over competitors. PESTLE analysis is used in association with a SWOT analysis to clarify understanding of the situation in relation to internal and external factors. © 2022 City and Guilds of London Institute.
