LANGUAGE 6 Adjective Phrases and Clauses UNIT 1 – GRAMMAR SESSION 1 GOALS: COMPETENCE: Differentiate between adjective phrases and adjective clauses Choose adjective phrases and/or clauses to improve and complete the meaning of the sentences. Compose and use adjective phrases and adjective clauses in sentences GOALS: CONSCIENCE: Foster a habit of reflection and discernment CHARACTER: Show consistency and discipline in following correct conventions when communicating with others OPENING ACTIVITY 1. Bring out your Language notebooks and ballpens. 2. In your notebooks, write one positive adjective that describes you. 3. Next, pass your notebooks to your right, and write one positive adjective describing the owner of the notebook, and then write your names beside the adjectives you wrote. 4. The process is repeated until you get your notebooks back. 5. One or two volunteers among you will share with the class the adjectives written in your notebooks. Jigsaw Activity 1. Clusters 1, 3, 5, and 7 will research on adjective phrases while clusters 2, 4, 6, and 8 will research on adjective clauses. (8 minutes) 2. Each cluster assigned to adjective phrases will send one representative to its counterpart cluster; the same goes for the clusters assigned to adjective clauses. ADJECTIVE CLAUSE a dependent clause (starts *Remember: Relative with a relative pronoun) pronouns introduce that functions as an adjective clauses. adjective EXAMPLES General Skibidi Skibidu, who is despicable, wants to conquer all the camps and spread brain rot in the Xavier Unit. ADJECTIVE PHRASE a phrase that functions as a phrase that tells which an adjective (describes, one or what kind modifies, gives more information, etc.) EXAMPLES Anyone getting sprayed with goo from a brain-rot gun is instantly transformed into a slave of General Skibidi Skibidu, following all his commands. The handsome young man on the hill, Gus Del Rosario, narrowly escaped becoming a puppet of General Skibidi Skibidu when his crush, Michelle, pulled him away from the path of the goo from the dreaded brain-rot gun. RECITATION: Underline the adjective phrases and clauses. 1. Relationships are an important part of a healthy life. 2. While all relationships are different, there are some key characteristics that help differentiate a healthy interpersonal connection from an unhealthy one. 3. A person whose relationships are secure, stable, and trusting becomes more trusting and open. RECITATION: Underline the adjective phrases and clauses. 4. A parent who shows respect and understanding for the other parent gives a child an example of healthy behavior. 5. Friends during elementary and high school years are the ones we like hanging out and/or playing with. RECITATION: Write a sentence on the board, underline the adjective, and say whether that is an adjective phrase or an adjective clause. Show of Hands: Where Am I Right Now? 1. In Paradise - I am at peace and can relax because I understand the lesson so far. 2. Getting There - I can understand the function/use of adjective phrases and clauses, but I need more practice in writing my own examples/using them in sentences. 3. Lost in Space - I am confused because I know only one-word adjectives like the ones taught in our DOSSCACO lesson.
