**[PURPOSE]** The purpose of this policy is to establish a guideline for the response and operation of department owned vehicles. **[SCOPE]** This procedure is to be followed by all members regardless of the district in which it occurs. **[RESPONSIBILITY]** It shall be the responsibility of each officer to adhere to this procedure concerning implementation to all members under their supervision. It shall be the responsibility of all members to familiarize themselves with this procedure and comply within the guidelines of this procedure. This procedure applies to all members of the Spring Fire Department. **[REVIEW]** The executive committee is responsible for reviewing this procedure annually and insuring its accuracy. **[PROCEDURE/POLICY]** 1. The use of department owned vehicles is intended to facilitate conducting of department business and service to the community. Without the prior knowledge and permission of the Fire Chief, use of department vehicles is limited to SFD territory and five (5) miles outside SFD territory unless on department business. 2. Permission to utilize the vehicles outside SFD territory will be granted by the Fire Chief if use of the vehicle has a direct benefit to the department. 3. Only approved and active Spring Fire Department personnel may operate or ride in department owned vehicle(s) or apparatus. Anyone not affiliated with the Spring Fire Department is strictly prohibited from riding in any department owned vehicle or apparatus. 4. Vehicles may be driven to and from places of employment [only] if the officer in the vehicle is allowed to leave their place of employment to respond if needed. 5. 6. Fuel tank must not fall below half (½) a tank. 7. Regular maintenance must be performed and is the responsibility of the person to which the vehicle has been assigned. 8. The inside and outside must be kept cleaned **at all times**. Do not abuse the privilege of the department vehicle. Fuel logs and mileage logs may be audited at the ESD's discretion. Any misuse or abuse of department owned vehicles is subject to loss of vehicle privileges. This document will be maintained according to the rules and regulations of the Spring Fire Department and may be amended at any time.
