DUTY #StrongerArmyStrongerCountry  ARMY 2040: WORLD-CLASS, MULTI-MISSION READY, CROSS DOMAIN CAPABLE DEFINITION OF TERMS Military Courtesy - pertains to the wholesome relationships between juniors and seniors, between young and old, with all persons. It includes an essential element of a full and proper appreciation of the rights of others. It also includes special acts and ceremonial procedures, which are prescribed in official regulations. Military Discipline - is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. It involves the ready subordination of the will of the individual for the good of the group. It is an extension and specialized application of the discipline that demands habitual but reasoned obedience that preserves initiative and functions unfalteringly even in the absence of the commander. Lieutenants are addressed officially as lieutenants 2. Other officers are addressed or referred to by their titles 3. Ma’am will be used in addressing a female officer 4. All chaplains are officially addressed as chaplain regardless of their military grade 5. Women officers of the Technical service as well with those WAC are addressed by their titles. B. Use of Titles by Retired Personnel - Individuals who retire from the armed forces and are not active on duty are authorized to use their titles socially and in connection with commercial enterprises, the subject to prescribed limitations. The manner of executing the salute speaks of individual attitude towards his duties as a military and the existing state of morale and discipline in his unit. HOW TO SALUTE It is executed by snappily raising the right hand smartly until the tip of the forefinger touches the edge of the right eyebrow on the front brim of the headgear when covered. Fingers are extended and joint, and palm facing the left forearm inclined at an angle of 45 degrees and the right upper arm horizontal. A person saluting looks at the person saluted. When the salutes are returned, he drops the right hand smartly to the side. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. Military personnel under arms will render the salute prescribed for the weapon with which they are armed. Military personnel in civilian clothes will render a salute to each other upon recognition. Covered or uncovered, salute is rendered in the usual manner. A person running will come to a walk before saluting. Organization and detachment commanders salute officers of higher grades by bringing the organization to attention before saluting except when in the field. The smartness with which the officer or soldier gives the salute is held to indicate the degree of pride he has in his military responsibilities. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. When meeting an officer whether both of you are in uniform and whether one of you is not in uniform inside military camps. Normally, a salute is rendered three (3) times a day when meeting an officer excluding the salute rendered when reporting. Salute is normally rendered once in the morning, in the noontime, and in the afternoon. b. When reporting to an officer c. Salute is rendered during military honors. d. During flag ceremonies where the national anthem is being played. e. When the national flag and other colors are being passed during parades and reviews. e. An enlisted man in ranks and not in attention comes to attention when addressed by an officer. 2. Individuals at work do not salute 3. When actively involved in games 4. In churches, theaters or public assemblies 5. When on the march in combat and other combat conditions 6. Sentinel armed with pistol does not salute after challenging. 7. Driver of a vehicle in motion is not required to salute 8. When indoors, except when reporting to an officer HONOR. PATRIOTISM. DUTY #StrongerArmyStrongerCountry  ARMY 2040: WORLD-CLASS, MULTI-MISSION READY, CROSS DOMAIN CAPABLE GENERAL RULES FOR SALUTING 1. The saluting distance is the distance of recognition and does not usually exceed thirty (30) paces. Normally, the salute is rendered when the person to be saluted is about six (6) paces. 2. Salute must always be returned by the Officer entitled to salute unless he is in formation with other officers. In this case, only the marcher or the most senior returns the salute. 3. The salute must be rendered at a halt or at walk. However, if an individual is running, he must come first to walk before saluting and continue running. 4. When several soldiers in a group, in outdoor not in formation, everybody must rise and salute. When indoor, only the commander or most senior salutes. 5. The salute must never be rendered with a pipe, cigarette in the right hand or in the mouth. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. Salute must be rendered whether when asking permission to converse to an officer. After the conversation he again salute the officer when he leaves. 8. Unlike in Navy personnel, army never salutes with the left hand. When the right hand is holding something, you may transfer it in the left hand before saluting. When both hands are full of articles never mind saluting just greet the officer.. 9. Enlisted Personnel salute other enlisted personnel only when rendering reports during formation. 10. Upon entering, he marches up to within about 2 paces of the officer’s desk, halts, salutes and reports. Courtesies Exchanged when an Officer Addresses a Soldier During conversations, salutes are exchanged, conversation is completed, salutes are again exchanged Procedure When an Officer Enters a Squadron of Tent In a squadron of tent, uncover and stand at attention when an officer enters. COURTESIES TO THE NATIONAL COLORS AND ANTHEM A. OUTDOOR 1. At the first note, all personnel present will pace the source of the music and stand at attention render salute until the last note of the music. 2. Vehicles in motion are brought to halt. Persons riding in a cars motorcycles will dismount and salute. Troops aboard the vehicle need not embark but shall remain seated at attention and do not salute. The one in-charge of the vehicle should dismount and be the one to render salute. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. INDOOR When the national anthem is play indoors military personnel will stand at attention and face the music on the flag if one is present, they will not salute unless underarms. COURTESIES TO THE DISPLAY OF THE FLAG The Philippine flag represents the nation and should always be given a place of honor. It is never permitted to touch the ground. It is not use as a costume, dress, or a drapery. No lettering or object should be place on it. The flag is displayed in the following manner: HONOR. PATRIOTISM. When hoisted at the flagpole it should be hoisted fully at the top of the pole, blue part above. B. When the flag is displayed with another flag, the national flag is on the right side. C. When displayed on walls, red at the right side as seen when you are facing the flag. D. When displayed in a horizontal position, the triangle is at the right side with the blue part up. E. When displayed over the casket, the triangle in the direction of the head of the cadaver with the blue part on the right side. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. Render the rifle salute by the present arm after first halting and facing the music, person, or colors. 2. Execute hand salute when armed with a pistol. 3. Not to attempt a conversion with an officer, just to salute another, but if the officer when the sentinel is conversing salutes a senior, the interior guard also salutes. 4. Being late for any engagement is the height of bad manners. 2. An officer of the Armed Forces is expected to behave and conduct himself with dignity and restraint. 3. It is bad taste to address a woman by her first name or nickname unless she has indicated otherwise. 4. An officer always asks to be permitted to smoke in the presence of a woman , especially in a room of an automobile. 5. If an officer invites a friend to his club, he should be out of sight only when necessary. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. An officer always stands when introduced to a woman, a clergyman, an official or an old man. 7. It is not polite to compliment a person in a company because the others might feel slighted. 8. An officer must be careful in speaking about his wife. To people who have not met her socially, she is referred to as my wife or her first name. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. Offer no excuses 4. Use of third person by an officer is of poor taste 5. Servility is scorned 6. Avoid praising your commander to his face 7. Old man to be spoken with care 8. Avoid going over the officer’s head 9. Harsh remarks are to be avoided 10.Avoid vulgarity and profanity 11.Excessive indebtedness to be avoided HONOR. PATRIOTISM. DUTY #StrongerArmyStrongerCountry  ARMY 2040: WORLD-CLASS, MULTI-MISSION READY, CROSS DOMAIN CAPABLE OTHER FORMS OF COURTESY 1. Avoid undue familiarity with your senior NCO and Officers. As much as possible there should be always a gap between junior and seniors whether enlisted men or officers. 2. Never enter an officers club even with the invitations of missed informed Officer. Tactfully refuse the invitations; in the same manner, officers should not hang around NCO clubs. 3. When walking with a senior, the junior always walks on his left side and keep step with the senior half step behind. 4. In entering any conveyances, the senior has all the priority to enter first and disembark ahead respectively. 5. When officers are walking on the way and you want to go ahead of him, salute and ask permission to go ahead by saying “permission to go ahead Sir”. You may precede when he return your salute and say “permission granted” or simply “carry on”. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. When conversing to an officer, always make use of the word “Sir” before or after the statement. The junior could also speak to the senior in the third person to show respect. 7. When the senior speaks to the junior, he must address them by their proper titles and contemporaries in their first name but never with the seniors. HONOR. PATRIOTISM. When no flag is near during the playing of the anthem, face the source of the music and salute. The vehicle in motion must stop. Persons aboard the vehicle need to disembark. Only the driver will disembark, stand beside the door of the vehicle and salute. The same manner is also rendered in respect to the flag and national anthem of other friendly countries. 9. Whenever reporting to new units, whether in garrison or in the field, it is necessary for you to make a Courtesy Call to your immediate commander. If you are an NCO, you should also call on your Company First Sergeant and Battalion Sergeant Major. HONOR. PATRIOTISM.
