RESTORATIVE MATERIAL DR. ADLA AHMED Dental restorative materials are used to fill tooth cavities, to cover tooth discoloration, or to correct contour and alignment deficiencies. Direct dental restorative materials can be placed directly into a tooth cavity within one office visit. Composite Amalgam Composite filling: a dental restorative material composed of mixture of plastic resin and powdered glass filler. They are used to repair cracked and decayed teeth. Composite Bulk-fill Conventional Flowable Packable Flowable Packable Increments thickness up to 5 mm Increments thickness 2mm Less polymerization shrinkage More polymerization shrinkage Available as syringe or capsule Available as syringe or capsule Composite Flowable composite Packable composite Thinner consistency “low filler content” Thicker consistency “high filler content” Less stiff More stiff Used in small low stress bearing area Used for posterior and anterior teeth Set using light cure Set using light cure It’s recommended to cover it with - packable composite Anterior posterior Etching: Main component Phosphoric acid (34% to 37%) Creates micromechanical retention Bonding and Adhesion: To achieve a bond between the composite and the tooth structure, the tooth must be etched and primed Van Meerbeek (2001) 4th generation 5th generation 5th generation 6th generation 7th generation 3 step Adhesive And Bonding 1-Etch 2-Prime 3-Apply Adhesive 2 steps 1-Etch 2-One bottle (Primer + Adhesive) 1 step Single bottle (Etch + Prime + Adhesive) *most used and latest system Light cure machine : *It’s a blue light machine, which used to cure composite increments and bonding agent. Composite curing time : 10-40 sec Bonding curing time: 10-20 sec Amalgam Silver colored restoration material. Used in posterior teeth. Mixed using an amalgamator 6-8 seconds. Retained in the cavity by mechanical retention. Available In capsules containing : 1. Mercury 2. Separator 3. Silver Alloys ( copper / tin / silver ) Steps of placing an amalgam restoration: 1. Prepare the cavity with undercuts (for mechanical retention). 2. Apply dentin desensitizer to block the exposed dentinal tubules.(Previously copal varnishes were used to block exposed dentinal tubules). 3. Wait for 30 sec then air dry. 4. Mix the amalgam in the amalgamator for 6-8 seconds. 5. Empty the contents of the capsule into a dappen dish. 6. Carry the amalgam from the dappen dish to the cavity using an amalgam carrier. 7. Place an increment of amalgam and condense using a condenser. 8. Repeat step 6-7 till the cavity is filled completely. 9. Once the cavity is filled, burnish it using burnisher. 10. Give the restoration its anatomy using a carver. 11. Burnish the amalgam. Indirect restoration Indirect restorations must be created outside of the mouth before being mounted on the affected tooth. Crowns, bridges, dental implants, inlays, onlays, and veneers are a few examples Fixed prosthesis PFM Bridge porcelain fused to metal full Ceramic Crown full Metal Crown Removable partial denture Acrylic Chrome Cobalt Acrylic Complete Removable Denture Process of making the metal frame of the removable denture : 1- draw the design 2- make the wax frame 3- melt the wax and replace it with metal (( Chrome Cobalt Frame Work Of Upper Removable Denture ))
