Today I’m going to be conducting a respiratory assessment which will involve me looking, listening, and feeling for a few things, is that ok? Work of breathing: shortness of breath? Accessory muscle use? Cough: type of cough – muffled, wheezy, ineffective à COPD, loose productive à bronchitis/pneumonia Stridor: obstruction of larynx or trachea (on inspiration), wheeze: à asthma, congestive heart failure Sputum: colour, volume and type à blood, pus etc Hands Colour: Peripheral cyanosis? à underlying hypoxaemia Temperature: warm, well perfused?
