R E G I O N 4 - B : MIMA R O P A R E G I O N Marinduque - Boac Occidental Mindoro - San Jose Oriental Mindoro - Calapan City Palawan - Puerto Princesa City Romblon - Romblon M I Mimaropa, formerly known as the A Southwestern Tagalog Region is an M B administrative region in the Philippines. It A was also formerly designated as Region IV-B O R until 2016. It is one of two regions in the U country having no land border with another O T region. It is composed of five provinces, two P cities, and 71 municipalities. A Marinduque - Boac Marinduque is an island province in the Philippines located in Southwestern Tagalog Region or Mimaropa, formerly designated as Region IV-B. Its capital is the municipality of Boac. Marinduque lies between Tayabas Bay to the north and Sibuyan Sea to the south. The province of Marinduque was ranked number 1 by the Philippine National Police and Philippine Security Forces as the 2013 Most Peaceful Province of the country due to its low crime rate statistics alternately ranking with the province of Batanes yearly. Boac Boac, officially the Municipality of Boac, is a 1st class municipality and capital of the province of Marinduque, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 57,283 people making the Most populous town in Marinduque. Tourist Destinations Boac Cathedral Poctoy Beach Tourist Destinations Mt. The province occupies the western half of the island of Mindoro. Its capital is Mamburao, but the largest municipality is San Jose. As of 2020, Occidental Mindoro has 525,354 inhabitants. San Jose San Jose has the province's largest commercial port and airport, the most banking, business, dining and commercial establishments in Occidental Mindoro, and has become a center of trade in the Mimaropa region. Its major local and international exports include rice, salt and processed milkfish. It was ranked 13th in "overall competitiveness" among Philippine local government units in the 2017 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI). In pre-colonial times, it was named Pandurucan by the indigenous Mangyans after the local river, before later renamed for its patron saint, St. Joseph, the husband of Mary. It produces large quantities of rice, corn, coconut, vegetables and fruits like calamansi, banana, rambutan, marang or uloy, lanzones and durian. It is the largest province in the country in terms of total area of 14,649.73 km². Palawan, one of the best places to visit in the Philippines, is consistently ranked as one of the best islands in the world, and for a good reason. It boasts white sand beaches and islands, clear blue waters, a spectacular variety of marine life and shipwreck sites, and majestic towering limestone cliffs. Puerto Princesa City Puerto Princesa is a coastal city on Palawan Island in the western Philippines. It's a base for boat trips through the massive limestone caves and underground river of the biodiverse Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. Dive sites are dotted around Puerto Princesa Bay, home to long- nosed dolphins, turtles and rays. Close to the port is the 19th-century Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 40,554 people. Romblon is known for its local marble industry and is the second biggest producer of the mineral in the country. It also a tourist destination because of its unspoiled beaches and Spanish-era twin forts.
