**POINTERS TO REVIEW IN CPAR** **(FIRST QUARTERLY EXAMINATION)** **Art** - is a means of expression that require imagination and/or skills in making aesthetic objects encounters that can be shared with other people **Latin** word ***ars** -- "skills"* **Greek** word ***techne** -- "technology"* ***Contemporary Art** -* is the term used for art of the present day and usually, the artists are alive and still making work **Integrative Art** - combines artistic and technology Example: **Digital Art** **SEVEN MAJOR FORMS OF ART** 1. **Painting** - bringing in elements such as drawing, composition, gesture, narration, and abstraction Example: Spoliarium -- Juan Luna 2. **Theater** - combines words, voice, movement and visual elements to express meaning Examples: Moro-Moro, Sarswela and Senakulo 3. **Sculpture** - used carving and modelling, in stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials 4. **Cinema** - uses dialogue, editing, the scene\'s layout, light, sound, and decor by the film made 5. **Architecture** - as distinguished from the skills associated with construction Example: Grand Hyatt - tallest building in the Philippines 6. **Music** - combines either vocal or instrumental sounds, sometimes both, using form, harmony, and expression of emotion to convey an idea 7. **Literature** - the author communicates ideas to readers, who then connect to the story on an individual level Examples: Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo ***ART FORMS IN THE PHILIPPINES*** 1. **Visual Art** - is an expression of artistic ideas **through images, structures, and tactile work** 2. ***Literary Art** -* is an expression of ideas **through writing** - ***Poetry** -* is considered as one of the oldest forms of literature characterized by its imaginative and figurative language - ***Prose** -* an imaginative literary piece is **NOT** written in figurative language - ***Drama** -* when a text is written to be performed and not just read 3. ***Performing Arts** -* is an expression of an artistic idea **through written lyrics, text, dramatization, and multimedia production** **ELEMENTS OF ART** ***Space** -* can vary depending on what art discipline it pertains to (Positive & Negative) **Color** - is light reflected by an object it can also affect how people feel and is symbolic ***Line** -* series of points - **Form** - curved, dotted, or broken - **Direction** - vertical, horizontal, or diagonal **Value** - is considered a property of a color which pertains to its lightness or darkness **Texture** - tactile or illusory surface of the piece **Scale** - refers to the relationship between the size of an object to another object **Proportion** - refers to the relationship between the size of parts of a whole **Form** - is a three-dimensional and encloses space, has length and width, but it also has depth **Three Kinds of Shapes** - **Geometric Shape** - are enclosed figures such as triangle, squares, and other structured figures - **Organic Shape** - shapes that are found in nature (flower, shell and clouds) - **Abstract Shape** -- random, unidentified **PRINCIPLES OF ART** **Emphasis** - refers to the center of interest in arts ***Subordination** -* supports the center of interest in arts ***Rhythm** -* refers to the repetition of certain elements to produce a pattern **Harmony** - produce an overall positive impact or effect it has what principle of art **Variety** - has contrast, difference, change, and elaboration, all add visual interest to an artist\'s work **Movement** - adds excitement, drama, and overall compositional interest to an artwork **Balance** - refers to the even and equal distribution of elements - **Symmetric Balance** - means that the work of art is the same on one side as the other, a mirror image of itself, on both sides of a center line - **Asymmetric Balance** - means that the two halves of the work of art are different, however, try to create balance
