Cardio-respiratory endurance – the ability of the heart, lungs, and vascular system to function efficiently and undergo body stress. 3. Flexibility – the ability to bend freely or increase the range of movements at a given point. 4. Agility – the ability to move one’s body in different levels and directions. 5. Balance – the ability to assume and maintain anybody position, whether static or moving, against the force of gravity. 6. Other physical components are speed, power, and coordination The BPS Physical Battery Tests 1. The Standing long jump, also called the Broad Jump, is a common and easy to administer test of explosive leg power. Purpose: to measure the explosive power of the legs. Equipment required: tape measure to measure distance jumped, non-slip floor for takeoff, and soft landing area preferred. 2. The sit-up (or curl-up) is an abdominal endurance training exercise to strengthen, tighten and tone the abdominal muscles. It is similar to a crunch (crunches target the rectus abdominis and also work the external and internal obliques), but sit-ups have a fuller range of motion and condition additional muscles. 3. The 50 meter sprint test is used to measure acceleration and speed over a short distance. The test involves having an individual sprint at maximum speed over 50 meters while being timed. 4. The Shuttle run tests typically entail running back and forth at a set rate between two line markers, and they vary in intensity, length, and distance. A shuttle run test might be short and fast or long and slow. They are used to assess a person's speed and agility. 5. The Sit and reach test is a type of flexibility test that evaluates the range of motion. Sit and reach tests can also be used to assess your flexibility. This sit and reach test measures the flexibility of low back muscles and hamstring muscles. 6. The “3-Minute Step Test” is designed to measure your aerobic fitness. It assesses your fitness level based on how quickly your heart rate recovers after exercise. 7. The Zipper test measures how mobile and flexible your upper arms and shoulder joints are. Reach one hand behind your neck and down along your spine. Then bring your opposite hand behind your back and up toward your top hand 8.The pushup test is a quick and easy way to assess the muscle strength and endurance of the chest and arms. The meaning of word stems from the Greek word gymnastics? gymnos, or “naked,”—appropriate, since the youths trained in the nude, performing floor exercises, lifting weights, and racing one another Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, a German-Prussian gymnastics educator and nationalist, founded the Turnverein, an international gymnastic and social society, in Germany in 1811. “Vater Jahn” was known as the “father” of gymnastics and believed in a sound mind in a sound body. Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths, also called Guts Muth or Gutsmuths (9 August 1759 – 21 May 1839), was a teacher and educator in Germany, and is especially known for his role in the development of physical education. He is thought of as the "grandfather of gymnastics" Types of The gymnastics most popular and widely-practised form, artistic gymnastics is divided into women’s and men’s gymnastics. Women compete on four Artistic gymnastics events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, while men compete on six events: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar. The sport consists mainly of the use of various gymnastic apparatus, as well as the use of the floor for different exercises. Rhythmic gymnastics is the performance of various gymnastics moves and dance exercises to music, with or without various gymnastic apparatus. Only Rhythmic women compete in the sport, which combines gymnastics elements of ballet and gymnastics in the performance of five separate routines with the use of one of the five apparatuses: ball, ribbon, hoop, clubs and rope. There are also group routines consisting of two to six gymnasts, performing with a maximum of two apparatuses of their choice. Aerobic gymnastics, also known as sport aerobics, involves the performance of routines by individuals, pairs, trios, or groups of up to six people. These Aerobic routines typically emphasize strength, flexibility and gymnastics aerobic fitness, rather than acrobatic or balance skills. Routines typically lasting 60 to 90 seconds are performed on floors, without the use of other apparatus. Tumbling, sometimes referred to as power tumbling, is a gymnastics discipline in which Power Tumbling participants perform a series of acrobatic skills down a 25 metres long sprung track. Acrobatic gymnastics is a competitive discipline of gymnastics where Acrobatic Gymnastics partnerships of gymnasts work together and perform figures consisting of acrobatic moves, dance and tumbling, set to music.
