Overview of Skilled Worker Points Overview The Skilled Worker route is points based; all applicant are required to score a total of 70 points in order to make a successful visa application. 50 of those points must come from the mandatory categories for sponsorship, skill level, and English proficiency. The remaining 20 points are based on salary but are tradable so can be achieved through a number of means. Mandatory Points You will need to achieve 50 points, 40 of which will be provided by the University for appointing you to an eligible job and assigning you a Certificate of Sponsorship. For the remaining 10 points you will need to provide that your English language is proficient to level B1. You will satisfy the language criteria if: You are from a majority English-speaking country; You were educated to degree level or above in a majority English-speaking country; or You have proven your proficiency for a previously grant of leave in the UK. Otherwise, you will need to take an approved English Language test before submitting an application. Tradeable Points The remaining 20 points needed for a valid application will be based on your salary, and where necessary can be supported by additional factors. The minimum salary level for the Skilled Workers route is the greater of the general salary threshold or the going rate for the role. If your job meets the minimum salary requirements you will automatically be awarded the necessary 20 points. Where your salary is under the minimum requirements, you may be able to achieve the necessary 20 points from other available categories. See table below.
