“Where curiosity comes to dream” Content Summary 01 Our Story 02 Our Spaces 03 Our Brands 04 Our Team Content Summary 01 Our Story 02 Our Spaces 03 Our Brands 04 Our Team Our Mission Luminaire is an interactive design research center, a playground for the soul, an esplanade for discovery. More than anything else, it is a resource focused on creating environments that affect people's lives. The component parts of this unifying philosophy – the necessity of design education, the desire for limitless inspiration, and the requirement for impeccably detailed execution – affect every item in our collection and reflect our dedication to make good design accessible to all. Redefining what a Design Showroom can be since 1974 At its core, Luminaire is about democratizing design – helping people to become fluent in its particular language. Simultaneously, a classroom, gallery, laboratory and playground – Luminaire is most importantly a place of discovery, not just for design but how we can use it to accentuate and improve our lives. The idea for Luminaire emerged out of Nasir and Nargis Kassamali’s love for the work of European design visionaries such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen, which developed while students of design in Copenhagen in the early 1970s Every city has its own unique energy — an almost palpable presence shaped by its residents, communities and physical attributes. Interwoven amongst and connecting these elements is the design sensibility of a location, what gives a city its distinctive flow and feel: crisscrossing streets, buildings rising to create a skyline, how one neighborhood gives way to another and the movement of people in and through these spaces. Responding to, channeling and redirecting this energy is a vital part of the Luminaire ethos. Through its curated showrooms, educational programming and philanthropic efforts, Luminaire has been a pioneer in design thinking and design retail in the United States, and has established itself as a timeless brand in the design industry A Playground for Design Discovery Over the years, the company has emphasized the necessity for design education and regularly sponsors curated exhibitions and hosts a lecture series every year which has featured design luminaries, such as Patricia Urquiola, Davide Groppi, Marcel Wanders, Antonio Citterio, Piero Lissoni, Philippe Starck, Richard Sapper, Ron Arad, Amanda Levete, the Bouroullec brothers, Ingo Maurer, Konstantin Grcic, Massimo and Lela Vignelli and Naoto Fukasawa, among many others. Opera Garnier Restaurant | Paris Shaikh Ebrahim Center | Bahrain Desalto For nearly 30 years, Desalto has spread worldwide an idea of an aesthetically sophisticated product based on constant technical and technological research focused on greater functionality.
