Numbering system PRESENTED BY DR. MOHIRA Tooth numbering system  Tooth numbering is a notation used by dentists to denote and specify information linked with a particular tooth.  Using a tooth numbering system allows :  easy identification,  communication,  dental record maintenance in an easy and a precise manner  Commonly used systems are:  the Zsigmondy-Palmer system,  Universal Numbering System,  FDI system numbering system What are dental quadrants  What are dental quadrants?  Dentists divide the whole dentition into four quadrants or sections. The upper arch has two sections, upper right and upper left sections..  Similarly, the lower jaw has right and left sections..  Understanding dental quadrants is important for understanding tooth numbering systems. 1. Palmer notation:(┘└ ┐┌)  Zsigmondy-Palmer system is the oldest and by far the most widely used.  It was originally termed the "Zsigmondy system" after the Hungarian dentist Adolf Zsigmondy who developed the idea in 1861, using a Zsigmondy cross to record quadrants of tooth positions.(using number for permanent teeth and roman number I, II, III, IV, V the primary teeth)  The Palmer notation consists of a symbol (┘└ ┐┌) designating in which quadrant the tooth is found and a number indicating the position from the midline.  popularly called Palmer's notation among dental professionals.  Named by American dentist Dr. Corydon Palme.  child primary dentition (A, B, C, D, E,)  Adult teeth were numbered 1 to 8, 2.A universal tooth numbering system:  was first proposed in the year 1882 by German dentist Julius Parreidt.  accepted and approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) in 1968.  commonly naming system used by dental professionals in America.  For primary teeth:  The naming begins from the upper arch right side to left side (both the quadrants), starting with the letter A and proceeding sequentially through J.  A similar pattern on the lower arch, where the left second molar is denoted by the letter k and right second molar is denoted by the letter T.  For permanent teeth:  Assigned numbers sequentially.  The naming starts from the posterior most region of the upper first quadrant and each tooth is numbered from 1 to 32 in a sequential pattern. 3.FDI system( Federation Dentaire Internationale):  It is a two-digit system proposed by Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI) for both the primary and permanent dentitions. It is also known as ISO 3950 notation system  This numbering system is used to record information on the health of a patient's teeth and to efficiently share information with other oral health professionals.  Orientation of the chart is traditionally "dentist's view", i.e. patient's right corresponds to notation chart left  For adults, the mouth is divided into quadrants numbered from 1 to 4 clockwise from the dentist's view..  The adult teeth are numbered from 1 to 8, going from the central incisor, canines, premolars to the third molar.  For children, the mouth is divided into quadrants numbered from 5 to 8 clockwise  Evaluate your self:  Mention the name of this teeth:  #11(UNIVERSAL)  #55(FDI)  #
