Casipe Introduction to Google Apps Google has come a long way since its inception in 1998 to become the world’s largest and most used search engine site. Google has transformed the way we used to study and played a major role in imparting education and knowledge accessible and comfortable for all. Google Applications First released their email app, Gmail, on April Fool’s Day 2004. 1 GB of storage and its label-based mail organization and fast search still set it apart from other email services. But it was primarily a competitor for Hotmail and other personal email services. Google Applications The following year, it acquired Writely, a simple online writing app which became Google Docs. Other apps bundled together into what was then called Google Apps for Your Domain, later simplified to Google Apps for Business before its recent rebranding as G Suite. Gmail Application Is one of the most widely-used web email clients in the world. One of the most powerful email clients available. Over 5 million organizations have adopted Google Apps as their corporate email system. Gmail Application Has a variety of the standard features that all email providers have Offers so many powerful ways to manage, automate, and clean up your inbox. Gmail Features Priority Inbox - Gmail automatically sorts your mail by moving the important messages to the top Conversation View - Gmail automatically groups together multiple emails Chat - Lets you send and receive instant messages with others in Gmail. Search - You can enter keywords to search entire conversations to find the message you are looking for. Labels - You can apply multiple labels. Filters - Sort and manage all your incoming mail. Filters can automatically apply labels, forward messages Stars - get pushed to the top of your inbox and can be marked as priorities, Google Calendar Is a web-based calendar which you can use for keeping track of important events and coordinating meetings. Is great as a stand-alone service The basics of Google Calendar include creating an event, inviting others and booking a room. Calendar Features Suggested Times - Find times when all invited guests can attend your event. Gmail to Calendar Event Add - When you receive an email with event details (time and/or date) add it instantly to your Calendar. Appointment Slots - Allows users to set aside blocks of time on their calendar Working Hours - Warn others when they try to schedule an event when you’re not actually in the office. Google Drive Released in early 2012 Has become one of the most widely adopted cloud storage services in the world. Allows users to easily create, edit, and store a number of file types and access them from any device with an internet connection. Drive Features Add a Google Doc to Multiple Folders - Adding a Google Doc or any other file to multiple folders within Google Drive makes it easy to find the file and stay organized. Advanced Search in Google Drive - These advanced search operators are especially useful when you’re navigating an extensive Drive library. Lesson 2: Google Docs Introduction One important feature of the cloud computing trend involves office software, which till now has been dominated by PC based software, primarily Microsoft (MS) Office. Google Docs is Google’s web-based office suite. MS has recently launched SkyDrive, a web- based, stripped-down version of MS Office.
