While precise authorship is unknown, the Creed is traditionally attributed to the Apostles, particularly the Twelve Apostles, hence its name.  Early Origins and Development the Roots in Early Christian Baptismal Rites in 1st-2nd Century: The origins of the Apostles' Creed can be traced back to the early baptismal confessions used by Christians. These early confessions were simple statements of faith made by converts during their baptism. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. While both creeds express core beliefs of the Christian faith, they differ in terms of origin, length, and theological emphasis. 18 1. Origin: The Apostle's Creed is an ancient creed that developed gradually over time, likely originating in the baptismal creed of the Roman Church in the 2nd century.
