SOCIAL ISSUES IN MEDIA AND INFORMATION USE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHT Protect the creations of individuals, such as inventions, literary works, and designs, ensuring creators can benefit from their work. COPYRIGHT Copyright gives creators exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, and perform their works. TRADEMARK A trademark is a symbol, word, or phrase legally registered to represent a company or product. INFRINGEMENT Making, using, or selling other peoples work without the authority. FAIR USE Fair use allows people to use small parts of someone else's copyrighted work without permission in certain situations PLAGIARISM Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's work, ideas, or words as your own without proper attribution. 5 TYPES OF PLAGIARISM Copy and Paste Word-switch Style Methaphor Idea FABRICATION Involves creating false results, facts, or stories to deceive others. FALSIFICATION Involves altering facts, figures, or results to fit a desired outcome. DIGITAL AGE CHALLENGES DIGITAL DIVIDE The digital divide refers to the gap between people who have access to modern technology INTERNET/MOBILE ADDICTION Internet/mobile addiction occurs when people spend excessive amounts of time online or on their phones, leading to negative effects on their daily lives. CYBERBULLYING Cyberbullying is the use of digital platforms to harass, threaten, or harm others. It can happen on social media, messaging apps, or other online spaces CYBERBULLYING WAYS Flaming - sending angry, rude, vulgar messages directed at a person or persons privately or to an online group. CYBERBULLYING WAYS Harassment - repeatedly sending a person offensive messages. CYBERBULLYING WAYS Cyberstalking - harassment that include threats of harm. Denigration - sending or posting, harmful, or untrue statements about a person to other people. CYBERBULLYING WAYS Masquerade - pretending to be someone else; and sending or posting material(s) that portray(s) a person or entity negatively. CYBERBULLYING WAYS Outing and Trickery- sending or posting material about a person that contains sensitive, private, or embarrassing information. CYBERBULLYING WAYS Exclusion - actions that specifically and intentionally exclude a person from an online group CYBERCRIME Illegal acts include hacking, cybersex, child pornography, identity theft, online libel, illegal access to data, online piracy, cybersquatting, and libel.
