Release is to be the least onerous form of release for the offender and at the earliest opportunity. Keep in mind s.498(1.1) C.C. P.R.I.C.E.S Officers are to use the ladder approach and to consider each rung of the ladder with the facts and circumstances of each case Officers are required to make notes of their reasons for the form of release they chose and be able to articulate these reasons. In a reverse onus officers may use discretion and release from the station. It does not mean the accused is automatically held for a bail hearing IF P.R.I.C.E.S can be satisfied with a less onerous form of release.
