Lesson Plan: ADAP for 9th Grade Georgia Standards: Health Education Standard 1: Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention. Health Education Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health. Health Education Standard 5: Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health. Lesson Title: Understanding Substance Abuse and Making Healthy Choices Grade Level: 9th Grade Duration: 60 minutes Objectives: Students will identify different types of substances and their effects. Students will understand the reasons behind substance abuse. Students will develop skills for making healthy choices and resisting peer pressure. Materials Needed: Whiteboard and markers Projector and screen (for videos or slides) Handouts with information on substances (e.g., alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs) Scenario cards for role-playing activities Exit tickets for reflection Lesson Outline: 1. Introduction (10 minutes) Briefly discuss what students know about substance abuse. Introduce the ADAP program and its importance. 2. Lecture/Presentation (15 minutes) Provide information on common substances (e.g., alcohol, marijuana, opioids). Discuss the effects of these substances on the body and mind.
