HOLY SPIRIT ACADEMY OF MALOLOS, INC. Bagong Bayan, City of Malolos, Bulacan LESSON 3 SOUND AND LIGHT Ms. Juni Francia DO YOU THINK SOUND AND LIGHT IS IMPORTANT IN OUR DAILY LIVES? LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Define the speed of sound in different mediums. 2. Identify the difference between reflection and refraction of light. 3.Understand the concept of dispersion of light. 4.Observe and record the colors present in a visible spectrum. 5.Appreciate the beauty of natural phenomena like rainbows. TRUTH IN LOVE ESSENTIAL QUESTION How does sound move in solids, liquids, and gases What happens to light when it interacts with matter? How does a prism or a diffraction grating disperse of light? TRUTH IN LOVE HOLY SPIRIT ACADEMY OF MALOLOS, INC. Bagong Bayan, City of Malolos, Bulacan LESSON 3.1 SPEED OF SOUND Ms. Juni Francia PROPERTIES OF SOUND SOUND AS A MECHANICAL WAVE longitudinal wave caused by the vibration of particles in a medium. TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF SOUND ELASTICITY AND SOUND the ability of a material to return to its original shape after being deformed. TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF SOUND DENSITY AND SOUND the mass per unit volume of a substance TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF SOUND SOUND INTENSITY AND LOUDNESS the amount of energy carried by a sound wave per unit area. loudness as the human perception of sound intensity TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF SOUND PITCH AND FREQUENCY the perceived highness or lowness of a sound. TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF SOUND PITCH AND FREQUENCY Frequency and pitch are directly proportional to each other. The pitch of the sound we hear depends on the frequency of the sound wave. A high frequency sound wave has a high pitch, and a low frequency sound has a low pitch. TRUTH IN LOVE HOLY SPIRIT ACADEMY OF MALOLOS, INC. Bagong Bayan, City of Malolos, Bulacan LESSON 3.2 LIGHT INTERACTION WITH MATTER Ms. Juni Francia PROPERTIES OF LIGHT LIGHT AS AN ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE Energy that travels through space as waves. Includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays. Different types of waves have different wavelengths and frequencies. TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT LIGHT AS AN ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE All travel at the speed of light in a vacuum. Visible light is a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can see. TRUTH IN LOVE SOURCE: HTTPS://SCIED.UCAR.EDU TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT VISIBLE LIGHT Visible light is a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Humans can see light with wavelengths between 400 to 700 nanometers. Different colors correspond to different wavelengths. Red light has the longest wavelength and lowest energy. Violet light has the shortest wavelength and TRUTH IN LOVE highest energy. SOURCE: QUORA.COM TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT LIGHT INTENSITY AND BRIGHTNESS Light intensity as the amount of light energy falling on a unit area. Brightness - the human perception of light intensity TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT LIGHT REFLECTION AND REFRACTION Reflection - the bouncing back of light from a surface. Refraction - the bending of light as it passes from one medium to another. TRUTH IN LOVE Scattering: The dispersion of light in various directions due to interactions with particles. Absorption: The conversion of light energy into other forms of energy (e.g., heat). Transmission: The passage of light through a material. TRUTH IN LOVE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT LIGHT DISPERSION the separation of white light into its component colors. TRUTH IN LOVE HOW LIGHT INTERACTS WITH MATTER Transparent materials allow light to pass through completely, forming a clear image. ⚬ Transparent: glass, water, air Translucent materials allow some light to pass through but scatter it, creating a blurry image. ⚬ Translucent: frosted glass, wax paper Opaque materials block all light from passing through. ⚬ Opaque: wood, metal, concrete TRUTH IN LOVE HOW LIGHT INTERACTS WITH MATTER TRUTH IN LOVE https://abnercabuang.wordpress.com HOLY SPIRIT ACADEMY OF MALOLOS, INC. Bagong Bayan, City of Malolos, Bulacan LESSON 3.3 DISPERSION OF LIGHT Ms. Juni Francia DISPERSION TRUTH IN LOVE DISPERSION a. Light is composed of colors of different frequencies and wavelength and the arrangement of colors of light shows the order of the color’s corresponding energy. b. ROYGBIV is the only part of the spectrum that can be seen by the naked eye. TRUTH IN LOVE THE VISIBLE SPECTRUM The visible spectrum consists of the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet (ROYGBIV). Each color has a specific wavelength, with red having the longest and violet having the shortest. TRUTH IN LOVE SOURCE: QUORA.COM TRUTH IN LOVE DISPERSION OF WHITE LIGHT NEWTON'S EXPERIMENT Isaac Newton famously demonstrated the dispersion of white light using a prism. He showed that white light is a combination of all colors and that these colors can be recombined to produce white light. TRUTH IN LOVE GENERALIZATION Instruction. Three important ideas/things from the lesson today are ___, ___, and ___, but the most important thing I learned today is __. TRUTH IN LOVE VALUING Let's explore this natural wonder with a sense of wonder and respect for the complexity of light and its interaction with matter. TRUTH IN LOVE TRUTH IN LOVE
