MAKING POSITIVE CHOICES YEAR 8 TERM 4 2024 Learning Intention Learning Intentions: Students investigate legislation and advertising in Australia in regards to vaping use Success Criteria: I will know I am successful when I can: Understand the impact of advertising on people choices to vape and smoke Understand the legislation surrounding smoking and vaping and the impact this is having on peoples smoking and vaping choices. Smoking Advertisements: These tobacco advertisements from the 1950s come from a time when we knew little about the dangers of smoking. What message do you think tobacco companies were trying to get across in these advertisements? Cigarette Advertisements: Since 1976 in Australia, cigarettes and smoking can not be advertised or promoted, however an anti smoking and QUIT approached is supported and promoted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUJETzycRx0 Smoking Legislation By the 1960’s there was a huge amount of evidence that had been gathered on the damaging effect of smoking on the body, especially lung cancer, and as a result this called for public health action. The Australian government then implemented laws and regulations around the advertising, selling and banning smoking in work and public places..
