MUSIC CAREERS ! There are tons of unique and exciting careers that can be done in the field of music and some of them don’t even require you to know that much about music. This week we are going to look at various different music career, their salaries, their lifestyles and much more! 2 Back to Back Exercise! Find a partner randomly around the room. Take 2 minutes to discuss what you already know about careers in music. After 2 minutes is up, I will call on some of you to share what your partner already knows! To get us started, let’s watch this short informative video on the business side of music! 4 What are your thoughts on the video you just watched? 5 Let’s Begin Exploring Some Careers! 6 Music Producer Salary: $82,000 7 What is a Music Producer By the traditional definition, a music producer is someone who oversees, manages, and guides the process of producing and recording a song. Quality music can be made on your standard laptop, and expensive hardware isn’t required. Sometimes can be nicknamed “Home Producers.” 8 Music producers don’t necessarily need a formal music education but it certainly helps. A producer will ○ Implement creative ideas for songs ○ Oversee and create recordings for production ○ Arrange Music ○ Mix Music ○ Layer music like in garageband! 9 Watch This Video of How Music Production Works! 10 Rick Rubin One of the most famous music producers of all time! He has worked with Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, Jay Z, Aerosmith, The red Hot Chili Peppers and so many more! Net Worth: $250 million! 11 SONGWRITER Salary: $50,000 12 What Does It Mean to Be A Songwriter? A songwriter is a musician who professionally composes pieces of music and writes lyrics for songs. Typically songwriting works in groups This is something you can get a college actually get a degree in because a Songwriter has to have knowledge in both music theory and poetry. A songwriter also typically get 9% of the profit from any song created. 13 Meghan Trainor Meghan Trainor originally got her start and made connections as a songwriter using garageband! She would work with famous artists like Rihanna and Rascal Flatts and present song ideas. Eventually one of these artists recognized her own talents as a singer and signed her on for a record of her own! 14 LYRICIST Salary: $40,000 15 Lyricist A Lyricist is similar to a songwriter, but is a more focused career. A lyricist deals purely with the literary side of things and doesn’t deal with any of the musical side of songwriting, again often working in a group. Lyricist often have degrees in writing and have studied pop culture to gain an understanding of what kind of lyrics are the most successful.
