Advanced Administrative Applications using Computer Lecture One Dr/ Hend Awad Mahmoud Section One Fundamental concepts of e- Business Topic 1 The Importance of Using Technology in Business Technology and the computer software’s are used in business administration to increase efficiency, productivity, sales, and reduce time of organizations functions. The advantages of using technology in business administration are listed in the following points,, 1. Improving business communications ❑ It helps employees to communicate efficiently with each other and with external stakeholders such as customers, partners, investors. ❑ Instead of having to hand-write information, business administration professionals can use applications and programs to facilitate communications at all levels in the organization. 2. Organizing and analyzing data ❑ Software programs enable organizations to organize its data more effectively and the employees can organize and find the information they need with a few clicks. ❑ Software programs also facilitate the data analysis. For example, Microsoft excel can help businesses to visualize their data in charts and graphs. 3. Managing the relationship between the organization and its customers ❑ It creates and maintains a database of customers and using this list to send email messages or make calls. ❑ After the initial outreach, the technology can be used in following up or taking further action based on the customer’s initial response. 4. efficient daily operations ❑ Another role of using technology in business is to improve the efficiency of operations so that the organizations can complete tasks quicker and cheaper. ❑ For example, employees can count and monitor inventory, organizations can use inventory management software that checks real-time levels, provides helpful reports to managers, and can even trigger orders when the supply is low. Topic 2 E- Business ❑ E- business include the process of buying, selling, and exchanging products and services by using the technological innovations. ❑ Innovations in technology include the improving of the existing business processes and developing new business models and applications Organizations that depend on E- Business ❑ While the large organizations have been the early adopter of e- business innovations, an increasing number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also rapidly adopting e- business to better serve customers, improve productivity, extend a market base, and stay competitive. The growth of E- Business ❑ The growth of e-business has been phenomenal in terms of sales volume and the number of corporate and individual adopters. For several years before 2006, growth rates exceeded 25% each year. Forrester forecasted that online sales would continue to grow to $204 billion in 2008. It is expected that in 2009 online sales will reach $235 billion, by 2010 it will reach $267 billion, and by 2012. ❑ The growth rate is declining as the market becomes more saturated with online shoppers. Obstacles to online retail sales growth include a social and physical aspect.
