Introduction The role of the teacher in training program focuses on training the student to become an effective educator, there are actually many more roles the teachers will play throughout there career. The roles of a teacher are the various responsibilities and activities, teachers engage in the classroom and in the school. DEFINITION OF ROLE The ROLE is defined as: ⚫ The function assumed or part played by a person in a particular situation. The Teacher Roles The Teacher Roles The Teacher Roles Teacher as Educator: ⚫ A teacher is the person in the class room who has the skills, tools, and information necessary to educate student. In the role as educator, the teacher is responsible for teaching the school's curriculum through engaging lessons and activities. ⚫ The teacher as educator must take into account student learning styles, abilities, and personalities. To be an effective educator, he must create lessons that are accessible to every student in his classroom. The Teacher Roles Teacher as Caregiver: ⚫ Teachers are the adults that children spend a large amount of their time with them. They are with the children for around seven hours a day, five days a week. ⚫ Because of the large amount of time spent with the students, the teachers must also be a caregiver in the classroom. This means providing physical, emotional, and intellectual support for students in various capacities. The Teacher Roles Teacher as Community Leader: ⚫ Schools are often the central of the communities, where children make friends. Therefore, a teacher must also be a community leader. ⚫ The teacher should organizes and interacts with parents and other members of the community outside of the school. Effective Teacher Traits Teaching traits: ⚫ Provides a well-planned, organized classroom environment conducive to students’ spontaneous learning. ⚫ Respect the interactions with students. ⚫ Builds rapport with students that makes it easier for them to talk about problems. ⚫ Starts the year with rules for things like homework, and assignment practicing them repetitively so they can master them. ⚫ Serves as an ethical mentor, providing guidance through discussion, storytelling, personal encouragement and feedback. Effective Teacher Traits Intellectual traits: ⚫ Constantly diagnosing each student’s emotional state, cognitive level, and interests. ⚫ Enters the classroom prepared, feeling that they want to be there, and with the attitude that have a solid learning experience. ⚫ Communicating with the students the importance of curiosity, sensitivity and self-examination. ⚫ Knows the stage of development of the student as a result of the capability of the student. ⚫ Spends dedicated time developing a social conscience by participating in activities that can make a difference. Characteristics of Highly Effective Teaching and Learning (CHETL) ⚫ *Learning Climate- Learning climate refers to the prevailing mood, attitudes, standards, and tone in the clinical or classroom environment. A negative climate can feel hostile, messy, and out of control. A positive climate feels safe, respectful, welcoming, and supportive of learning. ⚫ Classroom Assessment and Reflection- the teacher and student collaboratively gather information and reflect on learning through a systematic process that informs instruction. Characteristics of Highly Effective Teaching and Learning (CHETL) ⚫ Instructional Rigor and Student Engagement- a teacher supports and encourages a student’s creative and critical thinking with attention to problem solving ⚫ *Instructional Relevance- a teacher’s ability to facilitate learning experiences that are meaningful to students and prepare them for their futures. ⚫ Knowledge of Content- a teacher’s understanding and applicating of the current theories, principles, concepts and skills of a discipline.
