Knee joint The student should learn -the basic position of knee joint -the centering of each position AP position 1. The patient is placed either in supine or in sitting position. 2. Match axis of leg and knee with vertical axis of image receptor(IR) and pose the leg in internal rotation of around 5 degree to show as true anterior posterior projection image AP position of knee joint Knee joint x ray AP position with anatomy Region -knee joint, proximal tibia, proximal, proximal fibula, distal femur Pathology -ligament injury, fracture, chondromalacia, degenerative joint disease and arthritis of knee joint IR size (8*10)inch SID (-100) cm Central ray -project perpendicularly toward 1 cm below the tip of patella Respiration -unrelated Collimation -include distal portion of femur ,tibia and proximal portion of fibula Evaluation 1.knee joint should not be shown in satck 2. medial portion of head of fibula should overlap in tibia direction 3. patella should be shown overlap above the femur shadow Lateral knee joint (position) 1.the patient is placed in lateral decubitus position 2. place the opposite leg of filming knee 15 -20 degree ,place bilateral condyles of femur to be perpendicular to image receptor (IR) Evaluation -patella should look in true lateral side and patellafemoral joint should show opened without overlapping Collimation -include distal portion of femur, tibia and proximal portion of fibula patient lateral position Lateral position of knee joint x ray with anatomy Sky line view (patella) Position 1. the patient is in prone position or sitting. 2. place image receptor (IR) underneath of the knee and flexion of 90 degree Evaluation 1.patellofemoral joint cavity must show clearly with out overlapping 2. patella should be shown in half-side image 3. longitudinal fracture in patella can be observed Region -patellofemoral joint ,patella Pathology -fracture and dislocation of patella Central ray -project 15- 20 degree cephalad toward patellofemoral joint Sky line position of the knee Sky line x ray
