Micabani K TO 12 CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School and two years of Senior High School) to provide sufficient time mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners and prepare graduates for tertiary education. KEY STAGES KEY STAGE 3: JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL The goals of the JHS Curriculum are; 1. provide learners with opportunities to learn fundamental concepts at a higher degree of complexity 2. to help learners develop an increasing degree of independence in applying knowledge, skills and values learned. English Filipino TLE MAPEH JHS LEARNING AREAS Mathematics EsP Science AP All JHS and SHS have a Curriculum Guide (CG) with program standards, learning area standards, course description, and key stage standards. The curriculum guide for the learning areas is anchored on a conceptual framework for the teaching of the subject in the curriculum guides. Each conceptual framework contains the goals of teaching the subject, and the teaching methods and approaches One thing unique to the JHS is the nature of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) as a learning area which is consistent with TESDA Training Regulations. Each TLE subject in Grades 7 and 8 is exploratory. This means each student has the chance to explore the following four main courses of TLE. 1) Agri-Fishery Arts 2) Home Economics 3) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) 4) Industrial Arts Students can choose a maximum of four TLE mini courses in Grade 7 and another four in Grade 8 that the school offers per locality’s needs and school assets. In Grades 7 and 8, the student does not yet earn a Certificate of Competency (COC). The exploratory courses are a prelude to earning a COC in Grade 9 and an NC I/II in 10th grade. In Grade 9, the student chooses one course to focus on from among the exploratory courses he chose in 7th and 8th grades. Under this level, the student can earn a COC. In Grade 10, the student pursues the TLE specialization course he chose in 9th grade. This allows him to get at least an NC Level I or II (NC I or II) based on the TLE course he chose. In TLE, ICT is taught as a subject, which is a continuation of the teaching of ICT in Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) in Grades 4, 5, and 6. Unlike in other learning areas, ICT is a stand-alone subject in TLE and is not merely integrated in the learning area. Moreover, ICT has 12 specializations in TLE in which a JHS learner can obtain an National Certificate. Another important feature of the JHS curriculum is the provision of two to four hours per week for independent or cooperative learning. Purpose: 1. develop learners’ capacity for self-directed learning 2. Team work 3. Goal Orientation 4. learners’ sense of responsibility or accountability for their learning The JHS curriculum utilizes the spiral progression approach. As early as elementary, students gain knowledge in areas such as Biology, Geometry, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Algebra. This ensures a mastery of knowledge and skills after each level. For example, currently in High School, Biology is taught in 2nd Year, Chemistry in 3rd Year, and Physics in 4th Year. In K to 12, these subjects are connected and integrated from Grades 7 to 10.
