LABORATORY APPARATUS AND THEIR USES 1. Beaker Mainly used for measuring and transporting liquid 2. Erlenmeyer Flask Typically used for holding, mixing, heating and boiling chemicals 3. Test Tube Used to collect or store bodily fluids like blood and semen 4. Graduated Cylinder Used to measure the volume of liquid, has many graduation marks, and more accurate then beaker or flask 5. Pipette Used to measure out or transfer small quantities of liquid, in volumes of milliliters and microlitters 6. Volumetric Flask Used for precise measurement of a specific volume of a liquid 7. Petri Dish Used to culture microorganisms 8. Microscope Slide Used to hold samples under a microscope 9. Cover Slip Used to cover a sample on a microscope slide to preserve the specimen and prevent contamination 10. Microscope Used to magnify small objects or organisms for observation 11. Centrifuge Device that helps separate components of a mixture through the use of centrifugal force by spinning 12. Hot Plate A device with a flat surface and is use to heat materials in the laboratory 13. Bunsen Burner Used for rapid heating and for sterilizing objects on high heat 14. Tripod Stand Used to support equipment such as beaker and flask above the bunsen burner 15. Wire Gauze Place above the tripod so the heat would be distributed along the bottom part of your flask/beaker 16. Tongs Used for holding hot objects like test tube and beaker 17. Separatory Funnel Used for separating two immiscible liquids like water and oil 18. Rubber Tubing It is a rubber hose that is primarily used to transport and circulate liquids and gases 19. Mortar and Pestle Used to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them 20. Test Tube Racks Used to hold test tubes 21. Stirring Rod Used for stirring solutions and suspensions 22. Thermometer Used to measure temperature 23. pH Meter Used to measure the acidity or basicity of a solution 24. Gloves It protects your hand when handling hot materials 25. Safety Googles Protects your eyes from chemical splashes and other hazards 26. Lab Coat It protects the skin from chemical splashes and other hazards 27. Wire Brush Used for cleaning equipment 28. Weighting Scale Used to measure the weight of materials 29. Litmus Paper Used to identify the pH of any solution by changing colors 30. Ammeter Used to measure the amount of current flowing
