Paintings evoke feelings of movement, volume, space and light, and are typically created by artists using the components of shape, colour, line, tones and textures in distinctive ways. ### **International Painters** 1. **Johannes Vermeer** * **Theme:** Domestic interior scenes of middle-class life and quiet cityscapes in the early 19th century * **Style:** Baroque art * **Medium:** Oil on canvas * **Color Scheme:** Main pigments of his palette are ultramarine, blue, green, vermillion, red earth, yellow earth, grey and ochre. * **Recognizable feature:** Clear play of light and shadow. * **Key Feature:** 1. Detailed and realistic paintings. 2. Used perspective to create light-filled interiors. 3. The background is usually grey or ochre 4.
