Supercomputers are used for data-intensive and computation- heavy scientific and engineering purposes. such as quantum mechanics, weather forecasting, oil and gas exploration, molecular modeling, physical simulations, aerodynamics, nuclear fusion research and cryptoanalysis. ICTFS 01 FiS - CFGS Slide 14 of 38 TOPIC 1: INTRODUCTION MAINFRAME COMPUTERS Is a large, powerful computer typically used for complex calculations and data processing tasks by large enterprises for mission-critical applications. such as banking, medical services, insurance, utility and government agencies that has the need to store large quantities of information. Modern mainframes are also referred to as data servers (even though servers are not identical to mainframes). ICTFS 01 FiS - CFGS Slide 15 of 38 TOPIC 1: INTRODUCTION MINICOMPUTERS Is a small computer intermediate between a microcomputer and a mainframe in size, speed, and capacity. Often referred to as small or midrange or midsize servers. Used for scientific and engineering computations, business- transaction processing, file handling, and database management. ICTFS 01 FiS - CFGS Slide 16 of 38 TOPIC 1: INTRODUCTION MICROCOMPUTERS Is a computing device that made up of one or more microprocessors, stored program memory and usually one or more data input and data output devices. Microcomputer demonstrate the first need for computer invention and demand toward the need to facilitate tasks and as assistance to work on tasks. The Altair 8800, produced by Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS). Invented by Ed Roberts. A laptop is a thin, lightweight mobile computer with a screen in its lid and a keyboard in its base.
