History of ANSI In 1918, five engineering societies and three agencies created the [American Engineering Standards Committee (AESC) ] The AESC evolved into the American Standards Association (ASA) in 1928 The organization was renamed the United States of America Standards Institute (USASI) in 1966 The final name, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), was adopted in 1969 FOUNDING ENGINEERING SOCIETIES \~The five founding engineering societies that formed the AESC, and were also members of the United Engineering Society (UES), are: 1.) American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE, now IEEE) 2.) American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) 3.) American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 4.) American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME, now American Institute of Mining, Metallurgic, and Petroleum Engineers) 5.)
